History

Wrath is a black-eyed demon and one of the Seven Deadly Sins. His origins are unknown, but he existed as a demon with his six companions before the 16th century and has been trapped in Hell with them since the Dark Ages. Azazel means for Wrath to be a soldier in Sam Winchester's army, but after the army is freed from Hell at the cost of Azazel's life, Wrath and the other Sins begin operating as an independent group, only caring about causing death and suffering to entertain themselves.

Characteristics

Wrath has fully black eyes (irises and sclera). He initially possesses a bald, pierced, tattooed man and acts as a bartender at the bar the Seven Deadly Sins visit, and later possesses Isaac's corpse to manipulate Isaac's widow, Tamara. Wrath abhors hunters, being the first to confront Isaac and Tamara, and vocalizing his distaste at having them in the bar, which he refers to as his. He is sadistic, showing great amusement at both Isaac's vicious death and at getting to taunt and goad Tamara in the guise of her murdered husband.

Powers and abilities

  • Wrath can possess humans. He is able to possess corpses as well as living meatsuits.
  • Wrath is telepathic, demonstrating knowledge of Isaac's and Tamara's past. It is likely that he gained this knowledge from Isaac's memories through his possession of Isaac's body, but Wrath's fellow Sin Envy demonstrated telepathy without possessing the people whose minds he read, making it also likely that Wrath, too, is inherently telepathic.
  • It can be assumed that Wrath possesses a special power equivalent to that of the other Seven Deadly Sins', his being the ability to compel people to act violently out of supernaturally-induced anger.

Weaknesses

  • Wrath can be hurt by holy water.
  • Wrath is similarly affected by Palo Santo as he is by holy water, with the additional weakness of Palo Santo having the power to keep him "nailed down" for exorcisms.
  • Wrath can be cast out of his meatsuit and sent back to Hell with an exorcism rite.

Episodes

2.22 All Hell Breaks Loose: Part Two

Wrath (and the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins) is later revealed to be among the hundred or more demons seen escaping Hell through the open Devil's Gate in this episode. Like the other demons, he appears as demon smoke.

3.01 The Magnificent Seven

Wrath joins the other Sins in hanging out at a local bar while causing the deaths of humans through their power to incite deadly sin. Hunters Tamara and Isaac identify Envy as the demon behind the deaths and plan to capture him at the bar when they track him to it. When they move to attack Envy, however, Wrath (having previously pretended to be a bartender) steps in to confront them, angry that hunters are in his bar, and reveals himself a demon as well, prompting the rest of the bar patrons - all of them actually the rest of the Seven Deadly Sins - to reveal themselves all as demons, too. After Gluttony forces Isaac to kill himself, Sam, Dean, and Bobby intervene, fending off Wrath and the other Sins with holy water and capturing Envy before escaping.

Wrath and the rest of the remaining Sins track the hunters down in attempt to rescue Envy. Before arriving at the house the hunters are at, Wrath leaves his meatsuit's body in favor of possessing Isaac's corpse (it is unknown if his first meatsuit survived, but unlikely, given the murderous tendencies of the Sins). Pretending to be a badly injured but still-alive Isaac, Wrath goes up to the house alone and begs Tamara to let him in. When Tamara doesn't fall for it, Wrath turns to cruelly blaming her for "abandoning" Isaac and, before him, their daughter to die, which angers Tamara enough to rush out and attack Wrath, breaking the salt-line in the process and letting the other Sins into the house. Wrath is tackled to the ground by Tamara and stabbed in the chest with Palo Santo, effectively neutralizing him and keeping him out of the other Sins' fights going on in the house. He, Sloth, and Lust are later exorcised by Bobby.
