Torvald is following Rabbi Bass, a member of the Judah Initiative which since the Second World War has been trying to find the a ledger in which the Thule recorded magical experiments for reanimating the dead. When the Rabbi locates the ledger, Torvald kills him by causing him to combust.

The Rabbi has left his Golem, originally created to attack the Thule Society, to his grandson Aaron. He takes the Golem to try to find what happened to happened to his grandfather and find the ledger. He eventually teams up with Sam and Dean, and they track down the red ledger. Torvald tries to take it and shoots magic poison darts into Sam and Aaron, nearly killing them before the Golem catches him. Torvald defiantly tells Dean "Long Live the Thule," but the Golem snaps his neck, killing him and saving Aaron and Sam. Sam and Dean burn Torvald's body, which prevents the other Thule members from reanimating him. It also stops his ghost from telling everything to Eckhart.
