Torvald is a member of the Thule Society.

Torvald is following Rabbi Bass, a member of the Judah Initiative which since the Second World War has been trying to find the a ledger in which the Thule recorded magical experiments for reanimating the dead. When the Rabbi locates the ledger, Torvald kills him by causing him to combust.
The Rabbi has left his Golem, originally created to attack the Thule Society, to his grandson Aaron.
