*'''NOTATIONS:''' The only date that appears in this episode is a date on the top of the e-mail sent to Sam from his friend Rebecca---December 05, 2005. As busy as our boys have been it is quite feasible that Sam hasn’t been able to check his e-mails for a few weeks. Being as we have only the December date and Rebecca’s comment that she was staying at her parents house over the long weekend (Thanksgiving) when her brother Zack was arrested for his girlfriend’s murder, an educated guess as to the time frame of this episode is all that is possible. The episode though does cover a span of nine days. The episode actually tells us that seven days pass between the point where Sam tells Dean they’re going to St. Louis and the time the shape-shifter attacks Rebecca. The following day is the confrontation between Sam, the shape-shifter, and Dean killing the shape-shifter. One day later they leave St. Louis thus the nine day count. I would guess that the events of ‘Skin’ take place within the second or third week of January 2006.
+
Sam reads an email from his friend Rebecca, while a day's travel from Bisbee, Arizona. St. Louis is said to be 400 miles behind them. Sam and Dean spend 8 days hunting a Shapeshifter in St. Louis, Missouri (two days spent driving there).

*''Now I know some fans might disagree with my placement of this episode due to the fact that in ‘Benders’ when the deputy looks up Sam on the database they list Dean’s ‘death’ as March 7, 2006. Now that could be an error in continuity being as they also list Dean’s height as identical to Sam’s (6’ 4”), but there is another possible  explanation. ‘Skin’ and ‘Hookman’ could have been shown out of order. If that is the case then ‘Hookman’ would have taken place in January and ‘Skin’  took place during the first week of March which would fit. So the actual time frame of ‘Skin’ would be March 01, 2006 – March 09, 2006.''
+
*''Shapeshifter!Dean is killed on March 7th (according to information in later episode The Benders), making Dean Winchester officially dead according to the authorities.''
+
*''Rebecca Warren mentions that she was staying at her parents' place for "the long weekend" before Zack was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Emily. Since she sent the email on Dec. 5th, the "long weekend" she described would almost certainly be Nov. 23rd (Thanksgiving), 24th (Black Friday), through Sun 26th, since no holidays take place Dec. 1-3 that would result in a long weekend.''

*'''NOTATIONS:''' Again, thank you Kripke & Co. we have no dates, but we do have clues as to the time frame of this episode. Purple Paint Guy at the Frat House makes mention of a ‘Big Game’ and in the background we see a poster for the college football team on the door. Thus this episode must take place during football season. I’m not a huge sports fan, but I’d give an educated guess that this episode takes place during the last week of January 2006. The episode takes place over a span of four days.

*'''NOTATIONS:''' No actual dates are given in this episode, but Sam does mention the trip to Lawrence. Due to dates given in episodes that follow and the lack of dates in this specific episode I would place this episode as happening within a day or two of ‘Home’. This episode covers three days and the following dates are the possible time frame: April 01, 2006 – April 08, 2006. We do know though that the following episode ‘Scarecrow’ takes place the second week of April and it is back to back with ‘Asylum’. We know this because the final scene of ‘Asylum’ is the beginning scene of ‘Scarecrow’. So a more refined guess would be April 06, 2006-April 08, 2006.
+
Dean discovers a fugly Scarecrow in Burkittsville, Indiana, and spends 4 days there.

*Possible discrepency: Sam mentions that they have been looking for John for "six months", which would place the episode in the beginning of May.  However, this was said in a moment of anger and could easily be an exaggeration or approximation.
+
*''The night before they leave is mentioned to be the "7th night of the cycle." If we assume the "cycle" takes place over a calendar week, that would place their departure on the 15th or 16th. If we assume that the "cycle" ends with the full moon, then that would put their departure on the 13th or 14th, as the full moon was on Wednesday, April 13th in 2006.''

*'''NOTATIONS:''' ‘Faith’ takes place over the course of eight days and two towns. Considering that the latest that I’ve ever seen it snow in Missouri, where the next episode ‘Route 666’ takes place, is maybe the first week in May (that was an oddity) I would place ‘Faith’ as taking place the third week in April. Somewhere between April 15, 2006 – April 23, 2006.
+
Dean gets a call from former girlfriend Cassie, and he and Sam spend 5 days in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to investigate a series of road accidents.

 +
*''We know from Sam and Dean’s research that the first killing took place on the 4th of “last month”. We do not know how much time passed between the first death and Cassie’s father’s death...but my guess is not very much. The first killing was probably April 4th, and it is early May when the Winchester’s arrive.''  Although, note, it's snowing in Missouri in May ... rather unusual weather.

*''Dean and Sam are on their way to Pennsylvania for some reason at the beginning of the episode when Cassie calls. The service station informs us that they are in Bismarck, Kentucky, so they are taking a very odd route between Nebraska and Pennsylvania.''

'''Location''': Saginaw, Michigan

*'''NOTATIONS:''' As I previously mentioned being a life long resident of Missouri the latest I’ve ever seen it snow is the first week in May (again an oddity) a good guess for the time frame of this episode is somewhere between April 25, 2006 – May 05, 2006. I honestly can’t see this episode taking place any later than May 05, 2006 and that’s pushing it considering locale and weather conditions. The episode covers a span of four days.

*''The boys were only a couple of hours away from Saginaw Michigan at the beginning of the episode, so there is no day added for travel; however, usually people don't have the wake/funeral/death-party-thing the day after the death, so I've added two days to the day count, and have assumed that the boys spent those two days buying priest outfits and cleaning their guns.''

*'''NOTATIONS:''' As Kripke & Co. often has done they do not give a specific time frame in which this episode takes place. It’s obvious that some time has passed since the events of ‘Route 666’ and I would make an educated guess that the events take place some time in mid-May possible the third week. Speculative dates suggested are somewhere between May 15, 2006 – May 22, 2006.

'''Locations''': Chicago, Illinois

*'''NOTATIONS:''' There are no actual dates given in this episode with the exception of Dean’s ‘death’ in the episode ‘Skin’ (see note on time line of Skin). Although due to the proximity of Minnesota and Michigan I would speculate that ‘Benders’ takes place somewhere between May 23, 2006 – June 10, 2006. As I said though---simply speculation. There is nothing concrete to go by as far as the script goes. The episode does cover a span of three days from the time of Sam’s abduction to their escape from the Bender family.
+
Sam and Dean discover that someone is summoning a Shadow demon in Chicago, Illinois, and they meet up with their dad.

 +
*''Multiple reasons for time: 1)Sam says he met Meg "weeks ago" and there has been at least 20 days since then shown in episodes, 20 days after April 15th is May 5th, but there are always numerous missing days between episodes while the boys drive, since this is the 5th episode since Sam met Meg, if say there are at least 3 days between episodes, we can say that AT LEAST 35 days has passed since Sam met Meg, which brings us to the end of May. 2)Also, Sam says that the lunar cycle wasn't right for a werewolf, which means that the murder took place between May 13th and June 11th exclusive and in SPN-verse werewolves turn every night during the week leading up to the full moon (Heart), which is another reason this episode would have taken place before June 3rd. 3)The next episode starts as early as June 3rd.''

*'''NOTATIONS:''' Note to Kripke & Co. – I love how you never give us dates unless it’s absolutely required---not!! LOL This episode covers the least amount of time at this point and holds the most emotional punch possible in that length of time. From the point Sam and Dean visit Meredith’s apartment until they hightail it out of Chicago in the opposite direction of John two days pass. I’m speculating here, but I would say the timeline is somewhere between June 08, 2006 – June 15, 2006. Our boys must have been exhausted and hurting after this escapade.
+
On their way through Richardson, Texas, Sam and Dean spend 7 or 8 days investigating Hell House, which Sam reads about on a website.

*''An update, dated June 10th, 2006, is made to the website on either their fourth or fifth day there. They leave on either June 13th or June 14th.''

'''Locations''': Fitchburg, Wisconsin; Fort Douglas, Wisconsin; (Mentions of: Ogdenville, North Haverbrook, and Brockway)

*'''NOTATIONS:''' I’ve never been to Texas, but I have had friends that have. I’m pretty sure that the weather is not nippy in June (the episode starts with a scene two months before our boys arrive). Although, if I go with the idea that the boys arrive at the end of August then that at least that gives them a full three months to have healed from the wounds they sustained in ‘Shadow’. Yes, I know that’s not much better than instantaneous healing, but it’s closer to a real healing schedule. So I would speculate that ‘Hell House’ takes place somewhere in the vicinity of August 20, 2006 – August 31, 2006. The episode covers a span of four or five days.
+
Sam and Dean are sent to Fitchburg, Wisconson, by their Dad, because Something Wicked is attacking children.

*'''NOTATIONS:''' It’s established at the beginning of the episode by a question that Sam asks Dean that this episode takes place during the school year. Considering the weather and locale I would suggest that this episode takes place sometime in mid to late September, possibly the second or third week of the month. Breaking it down any further is virtually impossible since yet again---no dates. Of course we are used to that by now, but we still love that little evil bastard Kripke anyway. *'''NOTATIONS:''' This episode covers a span of five days. Figuring in the distance between Wisconsin (Something Wicked) and upstate New York (New Paltz;Hudson Valley) I would speculate this episode takes place somewhere between October 01, 2006 – October 9, 2006. I’m factoring in that we know that the final three episodes of the first season are basically back to back and occur in the vicinity of one year after the Pilot episode which started on October 30, 2005.

*'''NOTATIONS:''' This episode covers a span of four days. At this point we’re aware that almost a year has passed. I believe it’s mentioned in either ‘Salvation’ or ‘Devil’s Trap’ which are back to back episodes. So my working theory because honest to God I love the evilness of Kripke & Co. and November 2 seems to hold a special meaning in the SPN-verse I decided that more than likely the final scenes of ‘Devil’s Trap’ occurs on November 2. Now I have no proof to back this up, but come on guys---we’re talking about Kripke here. So going on that assumption ‘Dead Man’s Blood’ would begin somewhere in the vicinity of October 25, 2006 and covers a four day span that ends on October 29, 2006.

'''Day Count''': 24 hours

*'''NOTATIONS:''' I decided to do the final two eps together because despite two separate titles they are a single story. ‘Salvation’ picks up on the day following the end of ‘Dead Man’s Blood’ which would if my time line is correct be October 30, 2006. Two days are covered in ‘Salvation’ spanning four separate locations (Blue Earth, Manning, Salvation, and Lincoln). As the episode ends we are, following my speculative timeline, in Salvation, Iowa on October 31, 2006.

'''Locations''': Salvation, Iowa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jefferson City, Missouri.

=== [[1.22 Devil's Trap (episode)|Devil's Trap]] ===

Sam and Dean travel from Iowa to South Dakota and use a Devil's Trap to find out where their father is, then they drive to Jefferson City, Missouri, and launch a rescue effort.

*'Devil’s Trap' begins where ‘Salvation’ ends in Salvation, Iowa on October 31, 2006. Three days pass in ‘Devil’s Trap’ spanning four locations (Salvation, unknown rural location in South Dakota, Jefferson City, and an unknown rural location in Missouri). As the season finale ends we are left with an accident on a rural highway somewhere in Missouri on the night of November 02, 2006.

Latest revision as of 03:26, 28 June 2018

NOTE:

  • Days spent on each case include the day after they solve them, if it is shown in the episode.
  • Day counts assume one driving day in cases when the boys hear about the case and must travel to the location, unless otherwise stated.
  • Day counts count partial days as full days (meaning if an episode starts late at night, that night counts as a day)
  • Priority of information sources: A)Dialogue, B)Logic, C)Art/Props Department, D)Other Official Sources, E)Conjecture.

October 30th - November 2nd, 2005 - 1.01 Pilot

Day Count: 4

Locations: Palo Alto, California; Jericho, California

Dean arrives in Palo Alto - quite late at night. The boys spend 2 days investigating a Woman in White in Jericho, California. Jessica dies. Sam and Dean hit the road.

  • Oct 30 (Friday PM) – We’re introduced to Sam now twenty-two and attending Stanford University in Palo Alto, California with his girlfriend Jessica Lee Moore. They attend a Halloween party at a local bar and we learn Sam is getting ready for a law school interview scheduled for Monday November 2, 2005.
    • Note: In 2005, October 28 was actually on Friday; the following Monday was actually on October 31. But it's clear Sam gets back on Sunday night (before his law school interview on Monday), and Jess' gravestone (shown in later episodes) shows her death as November 2. So either Sunday night 11/2, or Monday early morning 11/2. Either way, a non-real calendar.
  • Oct 31 (Saturday AM) – Introduced to Dean, Sam’s older brother who breaks in Sam and Jessica’s apartment. He talks Sam into joining him to search for their missing father, John. Sam leaves with Dean promising Jessica he’ll be back on Monday in time for his law school interview.
  • Oct 31 (Saturday) – Sam and Dean arrive in Jericho, California in search of their father and following his trail via the job he was working: A Woman in White. Dean ends the day by falling in a river.
  • Nov 1 (Sunday AM) – Dean is arrested by local police who believe he is one of at least two serial killers responsible for the disappearances in Jericho. Sam goes to talk to Welch the widower of Constance who they identified as ‘the Woman in White’.
  • Nov 1 (Sunday PM) - Dean escapes the jail calling Sam to tell him their dad left coordinates to an unknown location in his journal. They later meet up when Sam is threatened by Constance. The final confrontation takes place in her previous home where she is pulled into hell by the spirits of her children she murdered.
  • Nov 1 (Around 10:00 PM) – They leave Jericho. Sam identifies coordinates as Blackwater Ridge, Colorado, but insists Dean take him back to Stanford.
  • Nov 2 (Monday, 2:50-3am) – Dean drops off Sam at his apartment where he witnesses Jessica die in the same manner as his mother died exactly twenty-two years to the day. Dean returns in time to drag Sam from the burning apartment. (Time taken from deleted scene available on DVD/BluRay)

November 10th - 14th, 2005 - 1.02 Wendigo

Day Count: 4

Locations: Grand Junction (Lost Creek/Blackwater Ridge), Colorado

Sam and Dean arrive in Lost Creek, Colorado, and spend 4 days hunting a Wendigo.

  • Dean says they spent one week in Palo Alto after Jessica's death.

Late November, 2005 - 1.03 Dead in the Water

Day Count: 5

Location: Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin

Sam and Dean spend 5 days investigating Lake Manitoc, Wisconsin, where people keep ending up Dead in the Water.

December 2nd - 5th, 2005 - 1.04 Phantom Traveler

Day Count: ~4

Locations: Catasauqua, Pennsylvania; Nazareth, Pennsylvania; Lehigh Valley Airport

Sam and Dean spend ~4 days investigating the Phantom Traveler at various airports.

  • A archived newspaper article in the Djinn-Wish'Verse in S2's What Is And What Should Never Be about Britannia Flight 424 is dated Dec. 5th, 2005.
  • In 1.06 Skin, we see that Sam's college friend Rebecca emailed him on December 5th to tell him about her brother who had been falsely accused of murder. Sam does not get the email until months later, however.

Unknown - 1.05 Bloody Mary

Day Count: 5-7

Locations: Toledo, Ohio; Fort Wayne, Indiana

Sam and Dean spend 5-7 days investigating Bloody Mary.

  • The paper says "a short service will be held on ...ber 31st at 2pm". While December seems unlikely, since December 31st is New Years' Eve, October was before the series even starts, and November has only 30 days.

February 28th - March 7th, 2006 - 1.06 Skin

Day Count: 8

Locations: St. Louis, Missouri; Bisbee, Arizona (mentioned)

Sam reads an email from his friend Rebecca, while a day's travel from Bisbee, Arizona. St. Louis is said to be 400 miles behind them. Sam and Dean spend 8 days hunting a Shapeshifter in St. Louis, Missouri (two days spent driving there).

  • Shapeshifter!Dean is killed on March 7th (according to information in later episode The Benders), making Dean Winchester officially dead according to the authorities.
  • Rebecca Warren mentions that she was staying at her parents' place for "the long weekend" before Zack was arrested for the murder of his girlfriend, Emily. Since she sent the email on Dec. 5th, the "long weekend" she described would almost certainly be Nov. 23rd (Thanksgiving), 24th (Black Friday), through Sun 26th, since no holidays take place Dec. 1-3 that would result in a long weekend.

Mid-March, 2006 - 1.07 Hook Man

Day Count: 5-6

Locations: Ankeny, Iowa

Dean and Sam hunt the Hookman in Ankeny Iowa for 5-6 days.

  • Occurs sometime between March 8th - March 22nd, 2006

March 23rd - 28th, 2006 - 1.08 Bugs

Day Count: 5

Locations: Oasis Plains, Oklahoma (fictional community)

Dean and Sam spend 4-5 days investigating bugs in Oklahoma

  • March 20th ("Friday") – Dustin, the Oklahoma Gas & Power worker dies.

~March 29th - April 1st, 2006 - 1.09 Home

Day Count: 4

Location: Lawrence, Kansas

Sam and Dean head Home to Lawrence Kansas for 4 days (assuming one day driving time to get there) and try to get rid of a poltergeist.

  • Dated due to the dates in Bugs and the timing of Asylum.

Early April, 2006 - 1.10 Asylum

Day Count: ~6

Location: Rockford, Illinois

Sam and Dean investigate an abandoned Asylum in Rockford, Illinois, for approx. 6 days.

  • The following episode, Scarecrow, takes place the second week of April and it is back to back with Asylum.
  • Possible discrepency: Sam mentions that they have been looking for John for "six months", which would place the episode in the beginning of May. However, this was said in a moment of anger and could easily be an exaggeration or approximation.

Between April 8th to 15th, 2006 - 1.11 Scarecrow

Day Count: 4

Location: Burkittsville, Indiana

Dean discovers a fugly Scarecrow in Burkittsville, Indiana, and spends 4 days there.

  • The night before they leave is mentioned to be the "7th night of the cycle." If we assume the "cycle" takes place over a calendar week, that would place their departure on the 15th or 16th. If we assume that the "cycle" ends with the full moon, then that would put their departure on the 13th or 14th, as the full moon was on Wednesday, April 13th in 2006.

End of April, 2006 - 1.12 Faith

Day Count: 7

Location: Nebraska

Dean is electrocuted on a hunt somewhere (that is not Nebraska) and Sam takes him to Nebraska to see a Faith healer. The episode spans 7 days.

  • Dean being healed on the fourth day at 4:17pm.
  • Although the sign outside the tent says that services are Sunday 11am and 2pm, it appears that the healing services happen much more frequently.

Early May, 2006 - 1.13 Route 666

Day Count: 5

Locations: Bismarck, Kentucky; Cape Girardeau, Missouri

Dean gets a call from former girlfriend Cassie, and he and Sam spend 5 days in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, to investigate a series of road accidents.

  • We know from Sam and Dean’s research that the first killing took place on the 4th of “last month”. We do not know how much time passed between the first death and Cassie’s father’s death...but my guess is not very much. The first killing was probably April 4th, and it is early May when the Winchester’s arrive. Although, note, it's snowing in Missouri in May ... rather unusual weather.
  • Dean and Sam are on their way to Pennsylvania for some reason at the beginning of the episode when Cassie calls. The service station informs us that they are in Bismarck, Kentucky, so they are taking a very odd route between Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

Mid-May, 2006 - 1.14 Nightmare

Day Count: ~5

Location: Saginaw, Michigan

Sam has a Nightmare that leads him and Dean to Saginaw, Michigan, where they spend approx. 5 days getting acquainted with Max Miller.

  • Sam says that his abilities started "6-7 months ago", given the time spent on the previous two cases, it's safe to assume that Sam means 7 months ago.
  • The boys were only a couple of hours away from Saginaw Michigan at the beginning of the episode, so there is no day added for travel; however, usually people don't have the wake/funeral/death-party-thing the day after the death, so I've added two days to the day count, and have assumed that the boys spent those two days buying priest outfits and cleaning their guns.

Mid-End May, 2006 - 1.15 The Benders

Day Count: 3

Location: Hibbing, Minnesota

Sam gets kidnapped by The Benders in Hibbing, Minnesota. The boys end up spending 3 days there (Sam is missing for two).

End May, 2006 - 1.16 Shadow

Day Count: (at least) 3

Locations: Chicago, Illinois

Sam and Dean discover that someone is summoning a Shadow demon in Chicago, Illinois, and they meet up with their dad.

  • Multiple reasons for time: 1)Sam says he met Meg "weeks ago" and there has been at least 20 days since then shown in episodes, 20 days after April 15th is May 5th, but there are always numerous missing days between episodes while the boys drive, since this is the 5th episode since Sam met Meg, if say there are at least 3 days between episodes, we can say that AT LEAST 35 days has passed since Sam met Meg, which brings us to the end of May. 3)The next episode starts as early as June 3rd.

~June 6/7th – June 13/14th, 2006 - 1.17 Hell House

Day Count: 7-8

Locations: Richardson, Texas

On their way through Richardson, Texas, Sam and Dean spend 7 or 8 days investigating Hell House, which Sam reads about on a website.

  • An update, dated June 10th, 2006, is made to the website on either their fourth or fifth day there. They leave on either June 13th or June 14th.
  • We'll have to ignore the fact that the boys' faces are miraculously healed after Chicago...Sam and Dean obviously have super-healing-powers.

Unknown, 2006 - 1.18 Something Wicked

Day Count: (at least) 3

Locations: Fitchburg, Wisconsin; Fort Douglas, Wisconsin; (Mentions of: Ogdenville, North Haverbrook, and Brockway)

Sam and Dean are sent to Fitchburg, Wisconson, by their Dad, because Something Wicked is attacking children.

  • Since they were in Texas previously, we can probably assume at least 2 days travel between the last episode and this one.

Unknown, 2006 - 1.19 Provenance

Day Count: 6

Location: Upstate New York

Sam and Dean find a painting with some interesting Provenance in upstate New York.

July 10th - 12th or July 27th - 29th, 2006 - 1.20 Dead Man's Blood

Day Count: 3

Location: Manning, Colorado

Sam and Dean travel to Manning, Colorado, where they find a nest of vampires, their father, and a need for Dead Man's Blood.

  • See notes on the Season 2 Timeline entry for 2.01 In My Time of Dying for more information on how this episode was dated.
  • At the beginning of the episode, Sam and Dean are in Nebraska, interestingly, heading east. That means that since the previous episode, they have travelled west of Nebraska for some reason. So, a considerable amount of time has passed between the previous episode and this one (they could have even worked a simple case somewhere on the west coast, for all we know).
  • I did not add a day of travel to the day count for this episode, because they are so close to Colorado at the beginning of the episode that they can make it there by nightfall.

July 13th - 14th or July 30th - 31st, 2006 - 1.21 Salvation

Day Count: 2

Locations: Manning, Colorado; Salvation,Iowa.

The Winchesters take off from Manning, Colorado, and travel to Salvation, Iowa, to hunt the elusive demon.

  • See the Season 2 Timeline entry for 2.01 In My Time of Dying for more information on how this episode was dated.

July 15th - 16th or August 1st - 2nd, 2006 - 1.22 Devil's Trap

Day Count: 24 hours

Locations: Salvation, Iowa; Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Jefferson City, Missouri.

Sam and Dean travel from Iowa to South Dakota and use a Devil's Trap to find out where their father is, then they drive to Jefferson City, Missouri, and launch a rescue effort.

  • See the Season 2 Timeline entry for 2.01 In My Time of Dying for more information on how this episode was dated.
