The Box

The Box belonged to the Men Of Letters and is decorated with their crest - the Aquarian Star. Inside The Box contains the key to where they had stored all the knowledge that they had possessed. If The Box were to be hunted down by an 'evil being' (demons, monsters etc) it can be safely stored in the area that they had placed all there scrolls and secrets since the area itself is branded with symbols to ward off every evil ever created.

It is now in possession of Sam Winchester after his grandfather, Henry Winchester died at the hands of a demon, Abaddon while the demon was out hunting for it.

8.12 As Time Goes By

In 1958 Abaddon, one of the Knights of Hell, was sent by party or parties unknown to kill the members of the group who were gathered in Normal, Illinois. They were gathered for the initiation of Henry Winchester and Josie Sands.

Abaddon killed David Ackers and Ted Bowen, and blinded Larry Ganem. After Henry bursts through to find out what was happening, Larry, crawls up to Henry and entrusts him with The Box, which contains the key to where all the knowledge the Men of Letters has collected is stored. She than went on to burn down their quarters before following Henry through the portal created by his Blood Spell. Sam, visits Larry Ganem, the other survivor of the incident, and to further his knowledge of The Box asks him what he knows. After Larry explains everything, Abaddon, possessing Larry's wife kills Larry and captures Sam. Abaddon then calls Dean for a trade between Sam and Henry & The Box. During the trade, Henry shoots Abaddon in the head with a bullet that had a Devil's Trap carved onto it. This immobilized Abbadon which allows Dean cuts her up into pieces. After Henry's death, Sam keeps The Box and contemplates whether he should lock it away or use it.

8.13 Everybody Hates Hitler

Sam and Dean follow the coordinates provided by Larry, and find an underground Bunker, which they are able to enter using the key inside the box.
