Supernatural: Bloodlines
From Super-wiki
At Comic Con 2013 executive producer Bob Singer announced that a spin-off series for Supernatural was being planned. It would begin as an "embedded pilot" with new characters introduced in episode 20 of season 9, and is to be written by Andrew Dabb (Source).
- "It’s an entirely different cast of characters. And unlike Supernatural – which is a road show — this will take place in one place (Chicago) with a wider cast of characters. (It will) explore the clashing monster and human characters living in the city...We’ll have main characters who are both human and monsters. That will include, families of monsters and families of hunters. It’s much more of an ensemble than Supernatural."
- August 1: CW President Mark Pedowitz said:
- "It will be set in Chicago. There will be hunters. There will be monsters [...] I don't believe anyone is intending to have continuing characters in it that are presently on Supernatural."
- January 30: Supernatural spin off series to be called Supernatural: Tribes. The CW has officially ordered a pilot (in addition to the Supernatural episode which introduces the characters). Andrew Dabb will executive produce Tribes alongside current Supernatural executive producers Robert Singer and Jeremy Carver, Supernatural creator Eric Kripke and former Supernatural executive producer McG.
- Ennis Roth: A human, Ennis is billed as the protagonist of Tribes. He is described as “likeable, strong-willed, resolute, with a strong sense of justice.” Ennis, the son of a cop, is preparing to enter the police academy when, like many who become hunters, a loved one is murdered.
- Along the way, he meets Sam and Dean, which is how he “learns the staggering truth” that Chicago is run by five families of monsters and becomes a hunter himself. Casting calls for Ennis are looking for an African-American actor in his early 20s.
- David Hayden: A shapeshifter, David comes from one of Chicago’s five ruling monster families, though he’s taken to a human life. However, tragedy brings him back to his old life. Age: early 20s.
- Margo Hayden: A shapeshifter, Margo is David’s sister. She is described as “professional, strong-willed, determined, ambitious” as well as an “ex-punk rocker gone corporate.” She looks to become the new head of the family in the wake of tragedy. Age: early 20s.
- Violet Durant: A werewolf, Violet is the member of another ruling family. However, as a werewolf, her love affair with shapeshifter David is forbidden. Age: early 20s.
- Julian Durant: A werewolf, Julian is Violet’s brother and Ennis’ arch nemesis. He is described as “savagely handsome, strong, arrogant.” Age: 20s.
- Freddie Costa: A human, Freddie is an old friend of Ennis’ father with a soft spot for Ennis. He’s described as a world-weary cop with a secret - he's on the payroll of one of the monster families. Age: 30s.
- February 7: The pilot for the series will film for a few days in Chicago in March 2014.
- February 18: Further detail on the plot from TV Guide: "After the death of a loved one, the show's protagonist, Ennis, is dragged into the world of hunting and monsters. It comes as no surprise that Sam is far more sympathetic to the wannabe cop than his brother when they run into Ennis working a case in Chicago. And while Tribes lacks Supernatural's beloved sibling angst, Ennis has his fair share of Winchester-level daddy issues."
- February 20: First casting is announced with Lucien Laviscount to star as Ennis Roth and Nathaniel Buzolic as David Hayden.
- February 25: Sean Faris has been cast to portray werewolf Julian Durrant.
- February 27: Danielle Savre has been cast as Margo Hayden and Stephen Martines as Detective Freddie Costa.
- March 8: Announcement that the series name has been changed from Supernatural: Tribes to Supernatural: Bloodlines. Melissa Roxburgh has been cast as Violet Durant.
- March 14: Bryce Johnson will join the cast in a yet unknown role.
- March 15: At the Supernatural Convention in Las Vegas, co-executive Producer Jim Michaels confirmed that Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki had completed filming the backdoor pilot for Bloodlines at around 5am that morning prior to heading to Las Vegas for the convention.
