* He is a true crime aficionado with an interest in serial killers
* Has developed an interest and some proficiency in witchcraft over the course of the series, causing Rowena to comment that Sam is the closest thing the Winchesters and Castiel have to a seasoned witch besides herself.

During a final confrontation with several hunters, including both Jody Mills and Bobby Singer, Sam is shot in the chest by Jody with a dead man's blood bullet. As Dean kills Jody in retaliation, Bobby takes the opportunity to decapitate Sam. This future and fate are averted when Sam chooses not to complete the spell to trap God as a result of what he saw would become of the world.
Police Record:<br>
* In 5.04 The End, Dean is teleported five years into the future, it is revealed Sam of 2014 said "yes" to Lucifer in Detroit. Lucifer kills Future!Dean.
* In 5.22 Swan Song Sam says "yes" to Lucifer in order to force him back into Hell.
* It is revealed that Sam, with the aid of the Impala which resurfaced certain powerful memories, could in fact resist Lucifer; thanks to the Impala, one some of his memories were triggered which allowed him to regain control of his body.
* Surprisingly enough, despite the weighting odds, Sam manages to absorb the memories of his experiences in Lucifer's Cage, and was able to resist them from decimating him for a period of time.
* Lucifer once again attempts to use Sam as his vessel in 11.10 The Devil in the Details in order to escape the cage. However, despite mental and physical torture, Sam stalwartly refuses to consent to Lucifer again, and Lucifer is forced to find a different vessel.
* After Sam discovers that Lucifer is possessing Castiel in 11.14 The Vessel, the archangel shows no more interest in Sam and even attempts to kill him before Castiel seizes control back temporarily. After returning from the past, Lucifer attempts to kill both Winchesters, forcing Sam to banish the archangel. During their brief conversation, Lucifer suggests that his continued interest in Sam may have stemmed from the fact that Sam was like the prom date that kept turning him down.
* In 12.23 All Along the Watchtower, Lucifer blatantly tells Sam that he no longer needs him anymore thanks to Crowley's upgrades to Nick's body to make him the perfect vessel for the archangel. As a result, Lucifer dismisses Sam's importance entirely.
* In 13.23 Let the Good Times Roll, Lucifer again attempts to kill Sam, comparing it to ending a relationship while beating up on him before attempting to have Jack and Sam kill each other. The attempt is ended when Dean shows up, acting as the vessel for the alternate Michael and kills Lucifer.
* In 15.05 Proverbs 17:3, Sam has a nightmare where he is the vessel of Lucifer, dressed in the same white suit as his 2014 counterpart wore. Dean shoots the archangel through the head from behind with the Colt, but fails to kill him and Lucifer immolates Dean. In 15.09 The Trap, God reveals that this was in fact an alternate reality Sam and Lucifer.
Powers & Abilities
Execution & Torture
When fueled by a certain amount of demon blood, Sam powers are strong enough to allow him to not only exorcise demons, but kill them too. Killing a demon creates the same light inside their body as when they're killed by the Colt or Ruby's knife. When killing Alastair, Sam was able to do so with ease, but Lilith required extreme concentration and will, the result of which drained him of all his powers upon completion. After consuming several gallons of demon blood in preparation for becoming Lucifer's vessel, Sam was powerful enough to kill two demons without moving a muscle. Sam is also capable of inflicting intense pain on any demon, which proves useful in torturing them for information for the agony is so great that Lilith's servant begged for death after just a few minutes of exposure. However, after her resurrection, Lilith insisted that Sam was only able to kill her because she allowed him to.
Sensing the Supernatural
In 11.22 We Happy Few, God, Lucifer, Rowena, Crowley agree to work together to lock away the darkness, since they cannot kill her in order to keep the balance between light and darkness. This time, Sam's supposed to receive the Mark of Cain, since Dean is tainted and can't take it again. When Dean asks him how Sam wants to deal with the Mark, he tells Dean to imprison him and throw away the key. Amara is weak after the attacks from Rowena, Crowley and Lucifer. She doesn't fight back when she think God wants to kill her, but feeling her Mark disappear and seeing it appearing on Sam's arm, she fights back, severely damages God and escapes.
As an instant effect of God's condition, the sun starts dying visibly in 11.23 Alpha and Omega. Together they return to the bunker and after a while, God has another suggestionon how to save the earth. Since the darkness can be canceled out by light, he suggests a bomb made of souls to destroy her. Sam and Dean visit a haunted asylum to collect some, but don't gain enough. Knowing about the earth's situation, Death appears and gives them a big amount of souls from the veil making the bomb dangerous enough for their plan. As Dean is the only one with a real connection to Amara, he has to take the bomb inside of him and trigger it when he's with her.
Before meeting Amara, Sam and Dean visit Mary's grave. Sam wants him to reconsider but Dean sees no other way. Dean announces his ideas and wishes for his own funeral, trying to lift the mood. He also asks Castiel to keep an eye on Sam, making sure he's alright. Dean gives Sam Baby's key and they hug before God finally sends him to Amara. Sam, God, Castiel, Crowley and Rowena wait at a pub while Dean talks to Amara. When God disappears and the sun shines normally again, Sam thinks Dean triggered the bomb and died.
Unknowing to Sam, Dean is back at the cemetery again where Mary's grave is, finding her alive.
In 12.15 Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, Sam and Dean deal with a Hellhound. In the beginning of the episode, he tells Dean that he programmed a computer algorithm that finds cases for them. At the end of the episode, he admits that lately, all cases came from the BMOL. He apologizes for not telling him earlier and adds that with their help, they killed the Alpha Vampire. Dean's unhappy with Sam's choice, but decides to join them as well under one conidition: as soon as things head in the wrong direction, they bail. Sam agrees.
Sam and Dean keep working for the BMOL, solving with a case with Mich Mick Davies together. Unbeknownst to them, he's killed for listening to the Winchesters. The BMOL headquarter decides to keep a close eye on them, attaching tiny microphones in the library to listen their conversations when Sam and Dean are away.

12.18 The Memory Remains: The boys hunt the pagan god Moloch and Sam kills him with the Colt. Back in the bunker, they are wondering about their legacies. Sam thinks the people they saved will remember them, but after those survivor die, the Winchesters will be forgotten as well. Dean starts carving his initials in the table, then Sam does the same like they did in the Impala when they were kids.
Season 13
13.01 Lost And and Found: Sam is still in the nursery with Jack, who smiles at him. As he gets up, he asks Sam if he is his father, but Sam denies. As Dean rushes into the room, he immediately tries to shoot Jack, but misses. Upset, Jack starts to scream, releasing a force that smashes the Winchesters against the wall, knocking them unconscious.
Waking up after a while, they go looking for Jack and find him in a nearby police station. The moment they arrive, Jack is attacking the local sheriff. Seeing Dean, he prepares to attack him as well, but Sam knocks him out with a taser. The local sheriff locks Sam and Jack in a cell while interrogating Dean, who admits openly that he and his brother are hunting monster and that Jack's one of them.
Inside the cell, Jack's waking up and wants to attack Sam again, but he manages to calm him down. He learns that Jack knows about his mother's death. Sam surprised that Jack thinks his father is Castiel. Soon, everyone at the police station is threatened by angels who want to take the nephilim away. Sam gets beaten down by one angel, but uses the blood dripping from his face for an Angel Banishing Sigil. The last angel left stabs Jack with an Angel Blade, but he remains unharmed, while the left angel is killed by Sam.
Together, they return to the hut where Jack was born to burn Kelly's and Castiel's body. Sam asks Jack if he wants to say something, but he has no idea what to say. Sam suggests to say: <i>Thank you. You say thank you. And you say you're sorry. You hope they're somewhere without, uh, sadness or pain. You hope they're somewhere better. You say goodbye. </i>
13.02 The Rising Son: Sam and Dean argue about Jack. To Sam, he's an innocent boy, to Dean a monster that has to be destroyed. Sam thinks they could take Jack to re-open the rift, saving their mom, but Dean says that she's dead.
At a motel, they meet Donatello who sensed the strong power radiating from Jack. During an argument between Sam, Dean and Donatello, Jack teleports himself outside, where Sam finds and comforts him, saying that he believes in Jack being a good.
Later, Jack gets lured away by Asmodeus disguised as Donatello. Asmodeus wants Jack as the new ruler of hell. When Sam, Dean and the actual Donatello find them, Jack saves them from Asmodeus attack.
13.10 Wayward Sisters: Sam and Dean are looking for a rift to get back home to their world when they are attacked and tied to a tree by a hooded figure. Unbeknownst to them, Kaia was found by Claire and brought to Jody. At Jody's place Claire, Patience, Alex, Donna and Kaia find the place were Kaia and Jack opened the rift. Together, they manage to bring Sam and Dean back to their world, before the brothers are eaten by a giant monster. Unfortunately, Kaia is killed during the rescue by the hooded figure. She manages to enter Sam and Dean's world through another portal. When lifting her hood, the mysterious figure turns out to be Kaia.

13.11 Breakdown: Sam is feeling down and doesn't leave his room, despite Dean preparing breakfast for them. Sam receives a message from Donna, asking for Sam and Dean's help in, since her niece got kidnapped. Working the case, Sam and Dean discover an auction page, where parts of actual humans are sold. Bidders can watch the victims being killed and taken apart via live stream. Sam, Dean and Donna assume her niece is there as well. Searching the place separated, Sam gets knocked out by the FBI agent Clegg, who covers the murders and arranges the auctions.
Since the Winchesters are popular among supernatural creatures, Clegg ties up Sam and immediately starts an auction for his heart.
Because Sam is in a dark mood, Dean tries to talk to him. But Sam disagrees with Dean, telling him he's not in a dark place, but seeing the things for what they are. He tells Dean that the their lives will end bloody as well.
Sam and Rowena share a history of dark encounters with Lucifer. In 13.12 Various & Sundry Villains Sam helps her to gain the Book of Black Grimoire, in order to restore her full powers. She wants to be able to defend herself against Lucifer.
13.15 A Most Holy Man: After gaining the spell from the demon tablet to open the rift, Sam and Dean try to find the first ingredient: the blood of a most holy man. They assume the blood of a holy man could be the blood of a saint. Searching online, they find people selling holy artifacts and contact one of them. Unbeknownst to them, they find themselves in black market deals between several persons. Also amidst them is an Italian Priest named Father Lucca Camilleri. He's chasing a sacred skull that got stolen from his monastery. Despite Sam being attacked and knocked unconscious by Camilleri at first, they team up to get the stolen skull back. Sam, Dean and Camilleri are successful and he takes skull is back home. Before leaving, Sam asks about a title the pope gave him, revealing that the pope named him: un uomo santissimo, which means 'a most holy man'. Sam and Dean request a few drops of his blood. With the first ingredient in their hands, they return to the bunker. To Sam, the whole situation still feels hopeless, but Dean tells him that he has faith.

Finding themselves in the animated world of Scooby Doo and the gang, Sam and Dean solve a very special kind of case in 13.16 Scoobynatural. After buying a cursed TV, Sam and Dean team up with the famous dog and his friends to get behind the secret of a haunted house. While Dean enjoys living in one of his good childhood memories, Sam's skeptical and constantly questions the cartoon logic. Unlike in the actual TV show, characters die or hurt themselves badly, like Shaggy, after falling out of the window. Sam and Dean know that some real supernatural activity is happening. They are all working together and build a trap, capturing the culprit. They manage to get in touch with the ghost of the cursed object: a young boy who's forced to do what his owner says. Back in The boy brings them back to their real world, where Sam and Dean destroy the object and free the ghost , who finally finds peace. Looking for the next ingredient for their spell, the Seal of Solomon, Sam and Dean accidentally free 13.17 The Thing. Unbeknownst to them, the thing is Yokoth a God from another dimension hiding in the body of Sandy. Sam and Dean happen to find her when searching for the seal. During an assault, Sam gets kidnapped by other members of the MOL. Together, they manage to save Dean in the last moment before another God possesses Dean's body. They send Yokoth back to his dimension. Explaining their situation, Sam and Dean take the Seal of Salomon and leave. The last missing ingredient is grace of an Archangel. To their surprise, Ketch enters with Gabriel by his side. Having gathered all ingredients, they open the rift. Sam's shocked when Dean says he takes Ketch with him and asks Sam to keep an eye on the rift. Hurt by Dean's choice, he stays in the bunker when Dean and Ketch enter the Apocalypse World. 13.18 Bring 'em Back Alive: Sam and Castiel take care of a abused and quiet Gabriel. Since most of his grace has been drained by Asmodeus, he's quite weak. Sam gives him his remaining grace that Ketch took from Asmodeus to help him recover. With his renewed strength, he kills the Prince of Hell when he attacks Sam and Castiel. Instead of supporting Sam and Dean, Gabriel leaves, telling Sam they always find a solution on their own. Dean comes back just in time before the rift closes and is furious to learn that Gabriel and his grace is gone. In 13.19 Funeralia, Rowena is on a killing spree and eventually she tries to kill Sam as well. When Billie appears, Rowena asks for Crowley to return, but Billie declines. The witch threatens to cut Sam's throat, but breaks down crying. Trying to redeem herself, she joins Sam and Dean's mission to save Jack and Mary. 13.20 Unfinished Business: Gabriel is taking revenge on everyone, who helped selling him to Asmodeus. When he gets hurt badly, he turns to Sam and Dean for support. They help him killing the rest of the deities. With his revenge complete, Gabriel also joins Sam and Dean in their Apocalypse World mission. Back in the bunker, Sam confronts Dean about his reckless behaviour lately. He says that he doesn't care for himself, but cares a lot what happens to his brother, reminding him that the last time they met Michael and Lucifer, Dean had to watch Sam die, but Sam answers: <i>"Dean, we're going to that place, and we're gonna save Jack and Mom. Together. And if something happens, we will deal with it together. And if we die? We'll do that together, too."</i>13.21 Beat the Devil Sam, Dean, Castiel, Gabriel and Rowena are ready to open the rift to the Apocalypse World, but don't get far since Gabriel's grace isn't enough. Despite Sam's protest, they decide to capture Lucifer, taking his grace. Rowena and Gabriel work together and successfully tap on the devil's grace to keep the rift open. Sam, Dean, Castiel and Gabriel enter the other world while Rowena stands guard in the bunker. In the Apocalypse World, they meet Maggie and her friend, the last of a group who tried to reach the camp. It's the same camp where Mary and Jack are. The shortest way is through a tunnel, invested with aggressive mutant vampires. They decide to take the short cut anyway.  Halfway through it, the path is blocked by rocks. While Gabriel and Castiel try to clear the path, Sam and Dean fight a group of attacking vampires. While Dean helps Maggie, Sam gets overwhelmed by three vampires, one biting straight through his carotid artery. He dies in seconds, while Dean watches in horror. The vampires drag Sam away. Dean wants to follow, but Castiel stops him, explaining that he has no chance and saving Jack comes first. While the rest of the groups arrives in the camp, Sam suddenly comes back to life. He's shocked and terrified when Lucifer tells him he brought him back. He wants Jack to like him, therefore he saved Sam. If Sam doesn't play along, he lets the vampires kill Sam again and meets Jack without him. Reluctantly, Sam walks to the camp. First he's glad to see Dean and the others again, but when Lucifer enters a few moments later, he looks broken. 13.22 Exodus: Lucifer meets Jack and slowly bonds with his son. When Mary says she doesn't want to leave the camp, Sam and Dean decide to take everyone along. They organize a bus and bring everyone to the rift. Before everyone's in the bunker, Michael arrives. Gabriel tries to stab him with the archangel blade, but gets killed by Michael. Dean already entered the rift when Sam turns to Lucifer, pushing him to the ground. Sam slips through the rift, before it finally closes, leaving Lucifer behind. Everyone is celebrating the safe arrival in the bunker. 13.23 Let the Good Times Roll: The people from the Apocalypse World started to settle in the bunker, where Sam updates them on <i>"our world"</i>. He also organizes the group and gives them tasks. When Maggie gets killed by an unknown person and resurrected by Lucifer, Jack admires his father, leaving the bunker with him. Lucifer plans on leaving this world with Jack as soon as possible, knowing that Michael will arrive soon. A few moments later, Michael enters the bunker, attacking Sam, Dean and the others. Having no chance in fighting the archangel, Sam prays to Jack to help them. Jack hears Sam's prayer and teleports himself back to the bunker, despite Lucifer asking him not to. He hurts Michael badly with his powers, impressing even Lucifer. When Jack learns that Lucifer killed Maggie in the first place, he despises him. Lucifer cuts Jack's throat, taking most of his grace. He's about to teleport himself and Jack away, when Sam holds onto Jack. All three of them disappear. Lucifer punches Jack and Sam tries to protect him. The devil offers them a deal. Jack and Sam should fight and whoever survives can leave. Sam tells Jack to kill him, since Jack has the power to defeat Lucifer. Jack takes the archangel blade between him and Sam and is about to stab himself when Dean appears. In a desperate move, Dean allowed Michael to use him as his vessel in order to save Sam. Together, Sam, Dean and Michael finally kill Lucifer. For a moment, Sam, Dean and Jack are happy about the victory, but suddenly Michael takes control over Dean and disappears. ===Season 14===As a 14.01 Stranger in a Strange Land, Michael, who has possessed Dean, looks for pure people to create a better world. Meanwhile, Sam is in the bunker with all the refugees from the Apocalypse World, delegating tasks and the search for his brother. Adding to this, Sam tries to encourage Jack, telling him that he's still a valuable member of the team despite losing his powers. Also taking shelter in the bunker is Nick, who survived Lucifer's death and tries to come to terms with what happened. Even though Nick's sight terrifies him, Sam's takes care of him as well. At the same time, Castiel tried to make a deal with a demon named Kipling, helping him to find Dean, but the demon takes him hostage, asking for Sam to appear. When Sam and some hunters enter the bar with Castiel and Kipling, it's the demon who wants Sam's support, aiming to become the new Crowley. Sam declines and a fight starts, where Sam kills Kipling. Then he orders everyone to stop and tells them that: <i>”There will be no new King of Hell. Not today. Not ever. And if anybody wants the job, you can come through me.“</i> All demons flee. In the end, Castiel apologizes for trying to make a deal with a demon, but would have done the same. He'd do anything to save Dean. 14.03 The Scar Sam is relieved that he found Dean unharmed. Since Dean has no idea why Michael left, he and Sam leave the bunker to find the archangel. In the meantime, Sam wants to know how Dean felt and what happened to him while being possessed, but Dean claims not to remember anything. They meet Kaia from the other world, who has a spear that is able to hurt Michael. Dean is quite aggressive towards her, demanding her weapon, but she keeps it and disappears. In end, Dean admits that he felt like drowning while Michael had control over his body and that he blames himself for Michael walking free, even though Sam tells him not to blame himself.  14.04 Mint Condition While Sam keeps organizing the hunters in the bunker, Dean hides himself in his room. To get him out of the bunker and out of his depressed state of mind, Sam found a case for them, dealing with one of Dean's favorite slasher movie character The Hatchet Man. They travel to Salem, Ohio and see the victim Stuart and his friend Samantha. Both work in the same comic book store where Sam and Dean meet them to start their investigation. Following separate leads, Sam ends up locked in with Samantha, but frees them by building a bomb with several cleaning fluids. After destroying the cursed object and saving Stuart, Sam and Dean drive back to the bunker. Dean is grateful that Sam found the case for them and Sam reminds Dean that none of Michael's actions are on him. Using the light mood, Dean finally gets Sam to tell the truth about his aversion for Halloween. When Sam was younger, he was invited to a Halloween party by someone on whom he had a crush on. Unfortunately, Sam was so nervous, that he threw up when he tried bobbing for apples. He got so embarrassed that he ran away and hid in the woods where Dean found him. In order to give Sam a great Halloween experience, Dean suggest to do costumes next year, listing several ideas for two matching disguises, like Ernie and Bert or Shaggy and Scooby. His last suggestion is Thelma and Louise, hinting at the movie's double suicide ending. Scared, Sam looks at Dean, shaking his head.  14.05 Nightmare Logic: Sam send Maggie on a mission on her own and feels guilty when she gets captured. While freeing her and killing the Djinn that caught her, Sam and Dean learn a lot more about Michael's plans. Dean is visibly distraught by them, but Sam promises that everything's going to be alright.  14.08 Byzantium: Unable to survive without his Grace, Jack dies while Sam sits by his side. Distraught by his death, Sam storms off, cutting woods in a nearby forest until his axe breaks. When finding him sitting alone by the Impala, Dean panics and assumes Sam made a deal, but he hasn't. He feels guilty for not having done more. The next day, with the help of Lily Sunder and Castiel, they manage to resurrect Jack. Lily's spell keeps Jack alive, but using his powers will slowly eat away his soul. In the end, Sam, Dean, Castiel and Jack celebrate that he's back with them.  Sam and Dean finally got a lead on Michael and prepare to capture him. While Dean and Castiel leave to get 14.09 The Spear from Kaia, Sam and Jack try to get the Hyperbolic Pulse Generator, that help them to extract Lucifer from his vessel. But Michael knew what they were up to. Sam gets hit from behind and watches Jack being dragged away. Then Michael appears in front of Sam, destroying the egg, before throwing him against a van, knocking him out.  When Sam is reunited with Dean and Castiel, the three of them enter the building, armed with the spear. But Michael awaits him. He captures Sam, Jack and Castiel and possesses Dean once again, since he left a door open in his mind before leaving him. Michael explains that he was too attached to Sam and the others, fighting too hard to get out. When Dean learns that he can't fight Michael, he becomes silent and the archangel can proceed with his plan of ending humanity.  14.10 Nihilism: Working together, Sam and Castiel are able to restrain Michael. They take him to the bunker where Sam and Castiel manage to connect with Dean's mind, finding him in a imaginary bar with Pamela Barnes. First Dean thinks Sam and Castiel came back from a hunt, but as soon as Sam says Poughkeepsie, Dean realizes what's going on. Michael enters the bar as well, trying to convince Dean that his life is better this way, telling him and Sam that he was happier when Sam was at Stanford. Michael says that deep down, Dean knows that Sam will leave him. A fight ensues and they manage to lock Micheal in Dean's mind. Dean regains control and they all wake up.  14.11 Damaged Goods: Dean got a visit from Billie, who tells him that the only way to save humanity is to lock himself in a Ma'lak Box. He tells Sam good-bye with a little hug, telling him he wants to have some time with his mother, who settled down in Donna's cabin. Sam is immediately suspicious, but stays behind first. Later, Sam meets up with Dean, Mary and Donna to stop Nick and his murder spree.  Back at Mary's cabin, Dean shows Sam what he's planning. Sam's offended, feeling hurt by Dean's plan of disappearing without telling him. Dean didn't want him to know, because Sam's the only person who could stop him. Dean asks Sam to support him and reluctantly, Sam agrees.  14.12 Prophet and Loss: Dean is determined to put himself inside his Ma'lak Box and throwing it into the ocean. Before arriving at their destination, they learn about a case where a future prophet awoke too early. On their way, Dean tells Sam that he feels sorry for not always being around when Sam grew up, but to Sam, Dean was the one who raised him and that he doesn't think about their struggles back then anymore. He also asks Dean not to have conversations that sound like death-bed apologies if he wants Sam to keep focused on their destination. They stopping a boy, who already killed two friends of his and is about to take the life of another one. They save the victim, but the boy commits suicide in front of Sam and Dean. Assuming a comatose Donatello is the cause for this, they visit him. With Castiel's help, they bring him back to consciousness, ending the irregular awakening. In the end, Sam's waiting at the Impala, drinking beer and tossing one to Dean the moment he arrives. Dean's happy that they saved Donatello, but Sam frustrated about his brother's attitude. He feels like Dean gives up, but Dean thinks he doesn't have a choice. Sam yells at him, assuming he's throwing everything away they did. Since his words doesn't seem to reach him, Sam punches Dean, shouting: <i>”I believe in us, Dean.“</i> Dean's surprised and when Sam tries to hit him again, he stops him. Sam hugs Dean tight, asking him why he doesn't believe in them. Dean gives in, telling Sam that they are going home. Dean asks Sam to promise to lock him away in the box when there's no other way to kill Michael. Sam agrees and they drive home. Sam and Dean live in a bunker nearby a town called 14.13 Lebanon in Kansas. From there on, they starts their trips on the road. A case leads them to a pawn shop with supernatural artifacts, where they get in a fight with the owner. When he tries to kill Sam with a sword, Dean shoots him. They take along all artifacts to store them safely in the bunker. On their route back, the stop in Lebanon for some groceries. While being inside a shop, their Impala is stolen by some teenagers. Sam and Dean find them, realizing they took some of the supernatural artifacts out. One of the boxes contained the ghost of John Wayne Gayce, a serial killer dressed like a clown. The situation makes Dean laugh, since Sam is interested in serial killers but is terrified of clowns. Burning the ghost, they explain to the teenager what that actually do and that no one can know about this.  Back in the bunker, Sam identifies one artifact as Baozhu, a pearl that make ones deepest desire come true. Dean uses the pearl, hoping to get rid of Michael, but instead, John Winchester from the year 2003 appears. After explaining the situation to John, he's proud of his boys. A bit later, Sam and John are alone and Sam can finally tell his dad that he understands why he raised them the way he did and how much it hurt that he no chance to say goodbye.  When Mary arrives, the whole Winchester family is united and they decide to have dinner together. Despite his worries about the consequences of John's appearance, Sam supports Dean's idea about having one meal together. While buying the ingredients in Lebanon, Sam realizes that something's off. Their timeline changed: Dean's wanted by the police for murder and Sam is a successful lawyer who gives TED talks on youtube.  After enjoying a delicious family dinner, the Winchester decide it's best when they send John back to his time. They give tearful goodbyes to each other. John hugs his boys one last time and asks them to take care of each other. With John back in 2003, Sam and Dean's timeline got restored. 14.14 Ouroboros: Sam, Dean, Castiel and Rowena go after a Gorgon, a being that loves snakes and eats human flesh. When they finally find him, a fight ensues where Dean is thrown against a wall and knocked unconscious. Since he doesn't wake up, they take him back to the bunker, where they lay him on bed in the sickbay. After a while, he wakes up and panics since Michael is gone. He's furious that he let Michael escape. Michael kills all other hunters in the bunker and finally possesses Rowena. He threatens to kill Sam, Dean, Jack and Castiel, throwing them through the room. Everyone goes down but Jack who remains unaffected. Michael takes away their ability to breath and their sight. They are all writhing in pain except for Jack. When the archangel tries to kill Jack, he fights back and eventually consumes all of Michael's grace. The archangel is dead and Jack's powers are finally restored.  : Dean and Castiel agree that Sam's deeply affected by the latest events and the death of all the other hunters. Sam wants to look into a case, but Dean decides to stay back with Jack. Castiel decides to join and together they travel to a place called Charming Acres. It's a peculiar little town, since it's still completely stuck in the 1950's. They investigate the death of a young boy and a man called Justin Smith. Both persons' head exploded without a visible reason. They asks a girl named Sunny, who works at a popular milkshake bar and who has been in a relationship with the first victim. While continuing the investigation Sam disappears and Castiel searches for him. Learning that he was about to interrogate Cindy, Justin Smith' wife, he walks to her house, where he finds him.But Sam doesn't recognize him. He's dressed in a cardigan and has his hair tied back, claiming to be Justin Smith. Cindy says that her husband is up well and therefore never died. Justin / Sam have an argument and he sends Castiel away after using bad language. Irritated by Sam's state of mind, he heads back to Sunny, accusing her for being a witch. She tries to run but he catches her and extracts the information from her brain. Then the mayor, Justin Smith and two others arrive to stop Castiel. The angel easily knocks out the other two, but refuses to hurt Justin / Sam. When he tries to kill Castiel with a angel blade, Castiel explains that he knows how he feels and that he has to snap out of it, otherwise he'd let Dean down. Sam remembers who he is and they go after the mayor, who has created this city and brainwashed all inhabitants. As the mayor tries to make Sam's head explode, Sunny stops him and traps him in his own mind, happy to be finally free. Back in the bunker, Dean teases Sam about his latest adventure. Sam admits to Dean that he hates this place and that he needs time to accept what happened. 14.17 Game Night: Sam, Dean, Jack and Mary are about to have an evening with board games and pizza when Donatello calls them, asking for help. Nick tries to use him to summon Lucifer, but gets captured by Sam and Dean. They drive to the place where Nick keeps Donatello. Dean gets out of the Impala to save Donatello, while Sam keeps an eye on Nick. Nevertheless, he gets out of the car and tries to escape. Sam tries to stop him, but Nick hits his head with a rock twice. Sam seeks shelter in the Impala and uses the horn to warn Dean. Nick is gone when Dean arrives, realizing that his brother is hurt quite badly. Sam thanks Dean for always putting him first before slipping into unconsciousness. Jack arrives just in time to heal Sam before he dies, saving him.  : Sam and Dean learn that their mother Mary got killed by Jack. Since it was an accident, he feels guilty and eventually tries to help to bring her back, but without success. They decide to leave her in heaven, where she rests in peace. Unbeknownst to him, Sam feels sorry for Jack and understands that it wasn't completely his fault. Jack's sure that they'll never trust him again. He leaves them, hiding alone in an abandoned factory, somewhere far away. 14.19 Jack in the Box: Sam and Dean are mourning Mary's death. While Jack gets manipulated by Dumah to forge human souls into angelic ones, Dean decides it's best to lock Jack into the Ma'lak Box until they can restore his soul. Sam is reluctant, because Dean asks him to lie to Jack, praying for him to see them. When Sam does, Jack happily appears in the bunker. Sam is obviously nervous about the situation as he explains their idea to Jack. Trusting Sam, Jack climbs inside the box and Dean hastily locks it. Jack soon feels uncomfortable, calling for Sam but he gets pushed out of the room by Dean, who locks the door. While sitting in the kitchen, Sam asks Dean what they do next, but Dean doesn't seem to care about Jack anymore. Castiel arrives as the alarm sound goes off in the bunker. They race to the box, but it got smashed by Jack who felt tricked by Sam and Dean. Angrily, he faces them. 14.20 Moriah: Jack escapes and walks through a city. He hears the people around him talk, realizing that most of them lie on a daily base. He gets angry demands everyone to stop lying. From this moment on, no human being on earth can lie anymore. Sam and Dean enter an surveillance office to find Jack and witness the situation descending into chaos. They are surprised when Castiel suddenly appears with Chuck by his side. He brings them back to the bunker, where he reverses Jack's demand. He creates a gun that can kill him, but also hurts the person who shoots it. This means, whoever kills Jack, dies as well.  Dean is ready to take this step and talks to Sam about it, but Sam is not okay with losing Jack and him at once. In the libary, Sam talks to Chuck again and learns that Chuck enjoys watching them. Sam's shocked that he and his brother are his favorite show. He also tells Sam that Dean already left to end Jack. Dean finds Jack at a cemetery and is about to shoot him when Sam arrives, begging Dean to stop. He lowers the gun, but Chuck tries to talk him into killing Jack anyway. Sam interferes, telling Dean how Chuck enjoys this. Chuck tells Dean that Sam is insane and that he should proceed. When Dean says he won't shoot Jack since he agrees with Sam, Chuck kills Jack himself. He's about to leave when Sam picks up the gun, shooting Chuck in the shoulder. The bullet wound appears on Sam's shoulder as well, hurting him.  Chuck has had enough, and welcomes them to the end. The sky turns dark and the ground opens. Souls are leaving hell, inhabiting the corpses from the cemetery that are now approaching Sam, Dean and Castiel. Dean grabs two iron poles for him and Sam. They stand back to back when the zombies attack them. ===Season 15=== 15.01 Back and to the Future: Still surrounded by the undead, Sam, Dean and Castiel start to fight their way out of the zombie crowd until they reach a little mausoleum where they lock themselves in. While they try to come up with a plan, a demon named Belphegor appears who possessed Jack's body. He helps them to escape and also knows how to lock all spirits in with a warding spell, at least temporarily. Sam and Castiel check a residential area and come across the ghost of John Wayne Gacy, who attacks Sam with a knife. Castiel appears and shoots him with rock salt. The ghost disappears and Castiel heals Sam's knife wounds. When trying to heal his bullet wound as well, Sam has a vision of himself having black eyes, standing in the bunker flooded by red light. He can hear Dean beg: <i>Sammy, please</i> before he snaps back to Castiel, who's unable to heal the wound. With the situation temporarily under control, Dean checks on Sam's bullet wound, realizing that whatever caused the injury is still inside Sam. Dean is upset knowing that Chuck manipulated their whole life but Sam says that they saved people nonetheless. They don't know how to send this big number of spirits back to hell, but they are detemined to do it together.  15.02 Raising Hell: Sam tries to calm down the evacuated people, who become more and more suspicious about the situation. Rowena arrives to create a soul bomb, which can suck in and contain all the spirits in town. Meanwhile in Reno, Chuck seeks his sisters help, but she is not interested. When she leave, Chuck checks his own bullet wound and carefully touches it. They pain is not only felt by Chuck, but by Sam as well. In the end, they manage to catch a big number of ghosts with the soul bomb, but by far not all. Since the warding is slowly fading and the spirit seem to continue escaping hell, Sam, Dean and the others find themselves confronted with an impossible mission.  15.03 The Rupture: Sam and Rowena work together for Rowena's final solution to contain all the spirits and closing the open gate to hell. At first Sam's unhappy to stay back while everyone else fights outside, but soon supports the witch's preparation. The final ingredient for her spell is her death and she needs Sam to kill her. Both realize how fond they grew of each other over the last years, but she asks him if he'd rather save her or Dean. In the moment they hug, Sam stabs her with tears in his eyes. She walks towards the rupture and falls down to hell while sucking all souls into her body. The rift closes and the spirits are gone. 15.04 Atomic Monsters: The Bunker is in alarm mode and flooded in red light. Dean is fighting his way through the corridors, killing several demons until he's standing in front of Sam. Sam expected this moment, knowing that Dean would hunt him down. Dean begs Sam to come with him and that he's controlled by the demon blood, but Sam declines. His eyes go black and he snaps Dean's neck with telekinesis.  Sam finally wakes up, terrified by his dream. He meets Dean in the kitchen, who is clearly worried about Sam's state. To get him out of this mood, he found a case for them. Despite being reluctant, Sam joins Dean. They soon solve the case where several girls from the same high school went missing. The culprit is a fellow high school student, who's a vampire but well aware of himself. When Sam and Dean find him at home with his parents, he agrees that Sam and Dean should kill him. They take him to a place outside town, where Sam watches Dean beheading the vampire. Sam finally wakes up, terrified by his dream. He meets Dean in the kitchen, who is clearly worried about Sam's state. To get him out of this mood, he found a case for them. Despite being reluctant, Sam joins Dean. They soon solve the case and kill the vampire, a young student who's still in high school, responsible. On their way back, Dean tries to cheer Sam up, since Sam reminded Dean about their impact, about the people they saved. But Sam can't join Dean's optimism, feeling overwhelmed by the whole situation. He constantly thinks about the loved ones he lost, like Jack, their mom or even Jess and that he doesn't know how to deal with their life at the moment. 15.05 Proverbs 17:3 Sam and Dean deal with a case of werewolf attacks at first. On their drive to the case, Sam sleeps and dreams about being possessed by Lucifer. Dean tries to kill him, shooting a bullet with the Colt in his head, but Sam/Lucifer quickly recovers from the wound. He burns Dean on the spot, enjoying the warmth of the flames. When he suddenly wakes up, Dean wants to know what he dreamed about, but Sam doesn't tell. The only survivor of the werewolf attack, a girl called Ashley Monroe, turns out to be Lilith, who has been send by Chuck to grab the Equalizer. When Sam and Dean try to attack her, she knocks Sam out and forces Dean to hand her over the gun in order to keep her away from Sam. While being unconscious, Sam has another dream. This time, Dean is possessed by the Mark of Cain and attacks Sam, punching and kicking him before Dean kills him with the First Blade. When waking up, Sam immediately gets up and follows them. He finds Lilith torturing Dean in their motel room. Sam shoots her with a Devil's Trap bullet, freezing her on spot. Sam tells her that he killed her once and can do that again, but last time, Lilith wanted to die to free Lucifer. This time, she won't be this easy. Her eyes turn white and the room shakes. Sam and Dean flee, but Lilith quickly catches up with them. She finds the Equalizer in the Impala and melting it immediately before she disappears. Back in the bunker, Sam wonders why Chuck doesn't simply kill them and Dean tells him that Chuck wants them to kill each other. Sam then admits having dreams or visions where this happens. He assumes that the bullet wound has a built a connection between him and Chuck. Dean feels overwhelmed knowing that God is after them, but Sam tells him that they are going to fight him somehow. 15.06 Golden Time: Sam is searching for signs of Chuck while Dean is more laid back since he assumes that Chuck will find them anyway when he wants to. Sam also tells Dean that his visions have stopped, seeing this as a good sign, but Dean is sure that something bad is waiting for them. When Sam goes out for a run, he meets Eileen Leah's ghost, who went to hell as well when a hell hound killed her. She asks them if they could send her to heaven, but they can't. Sam suggest a crystal like the soul bomb, but for Eileen alone, so she has a place to stay before she goes insane and hurts people. Dean is skeptical but Sam is determined to try. He drives to Rowena's old apartment and finds a dead witch on the ground. Since the apartment as been ransacked, Sam assumes the dead witch behind it. Unbeknownst to him, he's been watched. With Eilieen's help, he finds a secret chamber where Rowena kept her spells and special ingredients. Inbetween, he finds a spell that could bring a ghost back to live. He picks all he needs and walks to the Impala, when a witch attacks him. Sam asks Eileen to call Dean. The witches take him inside and are about to use the spell on the dead witch in the apartment, which is the witch's daughter. Her second daughter, Emily, uses a voodoo doll to hurt Sam if he doesn't cooperate. Since the witches will die when they enter Rowena's apartment, they send Sam to pick the good stuff from her secret shelf. Before they can leave, Dean enters with the witch mother as his hostage, threatening her with witch-killing-bullets, but Emily uses the voodoo doll to hurt Sam badly. A fight ensues and the witch mother attacks Dean but is stopped by Eileen. When Sam finally gets the upper hand, he kills the mother witch with a hex bag he picked from Rowena's shelf. Back in the bunker, Sam uses Rowena's spell and brings Eileen back to life. Later he talks to Dean, telling him that they need to find Chuck, but Dean's confused and doesn't know which decisions in life were his or Chucks. But Sam is determined to find a solution, because him and Dean are <i>the guys who break the rules. But I can't do it without you. I can't. Just like I couldn't do it today without you. I need my brother. </i> 15.07 Last Call: Castiel comes back to the bunker and wants to probe Sam's wound to find out more about it. Sam agrees but an attempt fails and ends with Sam being unconscious. While being knocked out, he sees Chuck's dialogue with his sister and learns that Chuck's weak. But Sam doesn't wake up. Castiel calls Sergei for help, who finds out that Sam's soul is connected to something. When Castiel asks him to heal him, he agrees, but worsens his condition first, trying to blackmail an object from the library. But Castiel send Bobby to Sergei's niece, threatening to hurt her if he doesn't cooperate. Sergei does and later, Sam wakes up. When Dean's back in the bunker, Sam tells him what he saw and that he's sure that they have an actual chance to beat Chuck. 15.08 Our Father, Who Aren't in Heaven Sam and Eileen spending a lot of time together, enjoying each other's company. In search of something to defeat Chuck, Dean suggests the Demon Tablet, but Chuck lets them know that he will kill all their loved ones if they try. In a different attempt, Sam, Dean and Castiel try to find Michael, who's still possessing the Winchester's half-brother Adam Milligan. They hope that he will support them. They search for him in hell, where they find Rowena as the new Queen of Hell. She's grateful for death, telling Sam that this is the best thing that could happen to her. Michael is not there but already on Earth. Castiel prays to him and he appears. After some discussion, he's ready to help and leaves a spell. In the meantime, Sam is out with Eileen for another case but ending up captured by Chuck. Chuck has captured Sam and Eileen in a casino in 15.09 The Trap . At first, he forces Eileen to cut Sam's wound out with a knife, but without success. Sam tells him he won't defeat them and Chuck praises Sam for being heroic, but then he shows Sam what would happen if they kill Chuck. His death would upset the balance between light and darkness. With the darkness on the rise, more monsters will appear. He sees himself and Dean, who fight bravely in the beginning, but with the loss of the majority on their friends, especially Dean loses hope. They end up becoming Werewolf and Sam gets killed by Bobby. Dean enters the casino to save Sam, in his hand a small ball that can capture God. Dean gives it to Sam to use it, but knowing their fate, he can't find the strength to do it. With all hope lost, the wound on Chuck's and Sam's shoulder disappears, freeing Chuck. Back in the bunker, Sam apologizes for not using the ball, but Dean trusts him that he did the right thing. He's sure they find a way after all.  Sam and Dean have faced a lot in their own version of 15.11 The Heroes' Journey. This time, their have to battle normalcy, when Dean receives his very first parking ticket and Sam gets a running nose. After a call from Garth, they travel to his house where they meet his daughter Gertie and his young twins: Cas and Sam. At Garth' place, they learn about a Cage Fight arena for monsters. Sam and Dean leave to check the location but are captured. The owner of this place tells them that they are going to fight this evening against the vampire Maul. Sam feels pretty hopeless, but Dean encourages him by saying that they got their reputation for a reason and that their sweat, tears and blood were real after all. But before the fight begins, Garth frees them and destroys the arena with bombs. When Garth killed every monster, he gives the brothers a hint where they can recharge their luck. Sam and Dean decide to give it a try.  With hardly any money left and all sandwiches gone, Sam and Dean arrive in Alaska to meet 15.12 The Gamblers. All of them play pool in a small bar outside town and whoever wins gains more luck or loses it. The brothers soon learn that each player has a coin that contains their luck. Sam is skeptical, but Dean asks for a coin and immediately wins his first game. They meet the man who lost against Dean outside and learn that he kept himself alive with winning games. After losing it all, the lung cancer he's battling strikes badly. Sam decides to ask for the owner of the bar. They find out that it belongs to the Goddess Fortuna. She demands to play against Sam and despite Dean protesting, he agrees. They play and Sam keeps asking about her and her bar, distracting her and winning the game, much to her surprise. She's also surprised to learn that they actually met God and offers to help them by playing another game. Sam raises the stake and demands in case of another win, that all those people stuck in the bar can leave without any luck taken. She agrees and starts another game but this time, she wins. With nothing left, Sam and Dean leave the bar, wondering where to go next when all people suddenly come out as well. The bartender walks up to them and explains that she let them go. The bartender also gives the brother a coin, restoring all their luck. Fortuna also has a message for them:t Sam and Dean shouldn't play Chuck's game, but make him play theirs.  With this, they return to the bunker where they meet Jack and Castiel. The unexpected reunion makes them optimistic for the future. 15.13 Destiny's Child: During their research for another possible plan to kill Chuck, Sam and Dean are interrupted by visitors from another universe: Sam and Dean. Before they can make contact, both Sam and Dean from an Alternative Universe disappear. Since their world doesn't exist anymore, they are stuck between worlds. With the help from Castiel, Sam and Dean pull their doppelgänger into their bunker. These two Winchester are not only different on the outside with their designer suits, but developed a different attitude. They got spoiled by their dad, who build a cooperation for hunting monsters that helped them gaining a fortune. Sam and Dean from this world are amazed how different their lifes are, even though they are all hunters. Nevertheless, the other Winchester arrive at a good timing to act as decoy in the bunker while this Sam and Dean help Jack to gain more strength to kill Chuck. The other Sam and Dean stay in the bunker, trying to act like their doppelgänger, even though the AU!Sam is not willing to sacrifice his manbun for this operation. When Sam and Dean arrive back in the bunker, they send the others away, since living together would just feel weird. With them gone, Sam and Dean focus on Jack who has a soul again and begs the Winchesters for forgiveness for killing Mary.
