SPN J2 Big Bang

History

The first SPN J2 Big Bang challenge was held in 2007, moderated by audrarose, estrella30 and wendy. In January writers signed up to write a 20,000+ word Supernatural or Jsquared novella, while artists and vidders created accompanying pieces of artwork or trailer vids to accompany the stories. The idea came from similar challenges run in Harry Potter and Smallville fandoms, although the minimum requirement there for 50,000+ words.

The 2007 Big Bang was declared officially over on July 5. According to mod audrarose, there were 49 story contributions, 70 pieces of fan art, 5 vids and approximately one million words written.

The challenge has grown in subsequent years

Stats

Big Bang 2007:
49 fics
28 SPN (57 percent)
21 RPS (43 percent)

Among the fics, 57 percent were slash, 33 percent were gen, 8 percent were het and 4 percent were femeslash.

Big Bang 2008:
112 fics (up by 128 percent from 2007.)
59 SPN (53 percent)
53 RPS (47 percent)

Among the fic, 59 were SPN (35 percent slash, 15 percent gen and 1 percent het) and 53 were RPS.

Big Bang 2009:
228 fics (up by 104% from 2008 and by 365% from 2007!)

90 SPN (40 percent)
138 RPS (60 percent)
Of the SPN fics, there are 61 slash (27 percent), 27 gen fics (12 percent) and 2 het fics (1 percent).
There were 52 Sam/Dean fics and 6 Dean/Castiel fics.

2009

In 2009 228 stories have been paired with artists for the challenge.

Entries in the 2009 challenge are being posted from 1st June to the 14th August. Check the SPN-J2 Big Bang community on LJ for stories and art already posted.
