Rachel was Castiel's lieutenant in the war to win control of heaven against Raphael, who refers to herself as Castiel's friend.

When Dean summons Castiel to help send him and Sam back to 1861, Rachel appears instead, stating that Castiel is busy with the war in heaven. Dean is not impressed and he and Rachel argue until Castiel appears.

Later Rachel summons Castiel to a deserted warehouse. She demands to know whether the rumors about his "dirty little secret" are true. He intimates that it is, but rebuts that whatever he is doing is necessary to win the war against Raphael. Rachel; obviously feels betrayed saying "I put my faith in you, and now look what you're becoming". She then attacks him with an Angel Killing Sword, she wounds him but in the ensuing fight, Castiel kills her.
