My Bloody Valentine 3D is a remake of the 1981 movie of the same name (well, without the 3D bit). In the new version Tom Hanniger (Jensen Ackles) returns to his hometown on the tenth anniversary of the Valentine's night massacre during which Harry Warden claimed the lives of 22 people. Tom was responsible for the cave-in which turned the Harry into a psycho serial killer. After his return, the killings start again and Tom finds himself suspected of committing the murders, with only his old girlfriend Sarah Palmer (Jaimie King) - now married to Axel Palmer (Kerr Smith)- willing to believe he is innocent. It comes from director Patrick Lussier with Todd Farmer and Zane Smith penning the script.

It opened on January 16, 2009. It was rumored (and at one point listed on imdb) to be released on Valentine's Day, February 14th, however it is assumed that the release on the day before of the Friday the 13th remake starring Jared Padalecki, lead to the change in release date.

It received an R rating for "graphic, brutal horror violence and grisly images throughout, some strong sexuality, graphic nudity and language."

Rotten Tomatoeslinks to many reviews and develops a meta score and tracks box office takings. A month after debuting, MBV3D was still fresh with a 59% rating, and a year later was at 55%. The sites' consensus: "This gory, senses-assaulting slasher film is an unpretentious, effective mix of old-school horror stylings and modern 3D technology."
