Moyamensing Prison

Also known as the Philadelphia County Prison; opened for occupancy in 1835. In 1836 a wing was built to be used as a debtors prison but due to changes in law, it was never used for the imprisonment of debtors. The debtors' wing was then combined with the main prison in 1868 and used for confinement of women. The prison closed in 1964 and the entire complex was demolished in 1968.
