Episodes

8.02 What's Up, Tiger Mommy?

At Plutus' auction, Mr. Vili bids a finger bone from the frost giant Ymir on Mjölnir, but Plutus doesn't accept the bid at first. Mr. Vili then adds "5/8 of a virgin" (the remains of the bank employee) to the bid and Plutus accepts the bid and sells him the weapon. He later goes to submit his bid and retrieve the weapon after the auction ended.

Dean armed with the grenade launcher and Sam with Mjölnir.

After Plutus is killed by Beau and Crowley, Beau opens fire on Sam and Kevin hoping to get more from Crowley by selling Kevin to him. Sam grabs Mjölnir and uses it to kill Beau with a blow to the head. He then faces Mr. Vili, who kindly asks for the hammer back. Realizing he killed someone to get his "5/8 of a virgin," Sam swings it at Mr. Vili, killing him, leaving behind only a pile of clothes. It can be assumed that Sam took the weapon afterwards.

15.14 Last Holiday

Sam armed himself with Mjölnir on a hunt while Dean used his grenade launcher.

Mjölnir in Lore

In Norse mythology Mjölnir is a weapon of great power, owned by Thor, the Norse god of thunder. Mjölnir is described as being one of the most fearsome weapons, capable of levelling mountains. After Thor used the hammer and tossed it against a target, the hammer would levitate itself, returning to Thor. Thor could also cast and then generate lightning with Mjölnir. The hammer could revive animals or people or even create. The hammer could be magically shrunken to fit inside Thor’s shirt.
