Malachi is an angel, who is referred to as a "street thug" and "anarchist." Since the fall he has amassed a following equal to that of Bartholomew.

Malachi had planned to meet in a top level summit with Bartholomew to discuss joining forces to take back Heaven from Metatron. However Bartholomew does not attend, preferring to send a lieutenant of his, responsibilities and his dislike of Malachi, whom he refers to as a "street thug." Angered by this slight, Malachi and his people proceed to kill Bartholomew's delegates.
Malachi had been tracking the angel Muriel, who had inadvertently led one of his soldier's Theo to Castiel. Malachi goes about torturing Castiel for information about Metatron, and any weakness he might know. As punishment for not answering his questions, he orders Theo to kill Muriel, and torture Castiel.
