1.09 Cast Your Fate to the Wind

Kyle bumps into John and Mary as they're kissing in the street. John introduces himself and thanks Kyle for covering the VA hospital story. Mary apologizes for not calling him back after their date, but Kyle shrugs it off by saying, "All's fair in love and war".

At the end of the episode, we find out that Kyle has been working with Betty to dig up dirt on John and Mary. Betty asks what Kyle's angle is and he tells her he just wants to find out what's happening in Lawrence, Kansas before handing her case files on John, Mary, Carlos, and Latika. It's then revealed that Kyle is acting under Akrida mind control to get at the hunters.

1.10 Suspicious Minds

Kyle meets with a group of other Akrida puppets, showing them a picture of Dean Winchester staring through a fence near the Impala. Kyle informs the others that the Akrida Queen thinks that the Monster Club might be useful in leading them to Dean. The queen believes that Dean is a hunter himself and by all accounts of the Akrida spies in the field, he's the reason that the Monster Club got together. The group knows that Dean needs to be eliminated, but they don't know his identity. Kyle suggests a plan involving spilling some human blood.

Later, John finds Kyle in Winchesters Garage where Kyle accuses John of stalking him over Mary. John quickly deduces that Kyle is being controlled by the Akrida and Kyle reveals that he's called the police and left a false trail to frame John for murder. Promising to see John again real soon, the Akrida makes Kyle slit his arm and then stab himself in the chest, killing Kyle. John desperately tends to Kyle as Millie arrives and police cars approach.

1.11 You've Got a Friend

John is arrested for Kyle's murder and interrogated by a detective that's controlled by the same Akrida who had controlled Kyle. The Akrida attempts to use the situation to leverage John into revealing what he knows about Dean Winchester before the Akrida stage an accident to kill him, but John instead deduces from their fear of Dean that he's not of this Earth and thus a threat to the Akrida.

John's friends and Betty later break him out of jail and John goes on the run with Mary while Millie and Betty search for evidence to clear him of Kyle's murder. John blames himself for Kyle's death despite knowing that it's not his fault and Mary tells him that they need to find Dean to make the Akrida pay for what they did to Kyle.

1.12 The Tears of a Clown

Millie brings the news that she and Betty have found a witness who can attest that Kyle arrived at the garage after he made the 911 call saying that he was already there, clearing John of the murder that the Akrida had framed him for.
