If you bought a

copy of the first issue of Life magazine the day it was put on the newsstand in November, 1936, it cost you ten

cents.
Today, if you could find a copy of that first issue in a bookstore, you’d have to pay anywhere from $8.50 to $15

for it, depending on its condition. In other cities, volume one, number one of Life sells for as much as $25.
But Playboy

magazine, much newer and much less an American tradition than Life, brings prices on the booming second-hand magazine market

that make Life’s seem a bargain.
A copy of the first issue of Playboy, which sold for 50 cents in December, 1953, now

brings $135 to $150 here and up to $350 on the east coast.
