Ian worked for Sandover Bridge & Iron Inc. in the tech support department. He had a penchant for not taking his job too seriously (he doesn't even wear the yellow company t-shirt to work), and stealing company stationery.

Ian works in the same department as Sam Wesson and enjoys friendly banter with him including listening to Sam recounting his weird dreams. He gets an email from Human Resources asking for him to "report to H.R.". The next day, he has changed in both personality and work ethic (even beginning to wear his work t-shirt). Dean Smith, director of sales and marketing at Sandover, calls Ian up to his office to discuss minor errors on a form he'd filled out. Ian panics and says he "failed the company" before running out of the office and into the restroom with Dean following him, trying to calm him. He stares into the mirror silently for a few moments before turning to face Dean and stabbing himself in the neck with a pencil he'd taken out of his pocket. We later find out that his meeting with H.R. had actually been a meeting with P.T. Sandover who had been haunting the building.
