These memos refer to it as "The Hand of God." I mean, that was sort of a catch all term for several objects he touched on Earth in Biblical times. But they're believed to contain traces of His power.
The Hand of God is also a catch-all term used to describe any antediluvian object that God has touched on Earth during biblical times, imbuing it with traces of His power. According to Lucifer, there were several God-touched objects on Earth at one point, but they were believed to not have survived the Great Flood, let alone made it to the 20th century. The power that emanates from a Hand of God is too potent and unstable, making it dangerous to touch bare handed, as a mortal would not be able to survive long making direct contact with the object. Angels and a few demons are the only creatures that can withstand and harness its power. These objects can only be used once -- after the power within is drained, the object is rendered useless. When used properly, these weapons can destroy any creature in all of Creation.
Hands of God
- Ark of the Covenant: The golden chest that contains the original stone tablets inscribed with the Ten Commandments. In 1943, a fragment of the original ark was discovered by the Ahnenerbe, the archaeological branch of the Thule Society, who believed that they could use it to win World War II. A Woman of Letters, Delphine Seydoux, posing undercover as a French mistress to Befehlsleiter Gumprecht, killed her German "lover" and made off with the weapon. A Man of Letters stationed in the OSS requisitioned the USS Bluefin to transport Delphine and the weapon back to the United States where it was supposed to be hidden in the Bunker. Dean, who was sent back in time to November 25, 1943, tries to retrieve the ark fragment with the hopes of using it against Amara. When a 36-B German destroyer captained by Gumprecht, who was revealed to be a friend of the Thule Society, attacks the submarine, Delphine absorbs the power from the ark fragment and destroys the ship along with its crew. The resulting blast destroys the USS Bluefin and its crew, but not before Lucifer retrieves Dean and the Hand of God from the past. At first, Lucifer wants to absorb its power and use it against Sam and Dean, but its energy was drained rendering it useless. It is currently in the Men of Letters Bunker.
- Rod of Aaron: Made by God on the sixth day, the rod was given to Aaron, brother of Moses and the creator of the Golden Calf. At some point in time, Crowley was able to recover the rod and hide it in his lock-up. After escaping Lucifer's confinement, Crowley heads to his lock-up with Simmons to retrieve the rod, but it is revealed Lucifer released Crowley in order to locate the weapon for himself, planting Simmons as a double-agent to trick Crowley. Crowley is able to double cross them both by absorbing the rod's power. He intends to use the power against Lucifer, but Simmons jumps in front to protect him and takes the blast, killing herself. With the rod's powers drained, Crowley makes a quick escape to avoid certain death, leaving the rod in his lock-up.
- Horn of Joshua: The shofar used by Joshua to win the Battle of Jericho. It was located in the An-Nafud desert in Saudi Arabia by Noel, who sells it to Crowley in exchange for the return of his soul. With the horn in his possession, Crowley meets with Sam and Dean in St. Louis to make a deal. The horn in exchange for imprisoning Lucifer in the Cage once again. After discovering Rowena is alive, the trio decide to use the shofar as bait to lure Lucifer into an trap of Rowena's design. Unfortunately, the holy fire and the trap eventually fail, allowing him to steal the shofar. When Amara appears, having tracked Rowena when she left her side, Lucifer absorbs the energy in the horn and aims it at her, but it proves to be ineffective against Amara, only appearing to slightly annoy her, leading to Lucifer's capture by Amara. The shofar is currently located in the Men of Letters Bunker.
- Adam's Rib: One of Adam's ribs, which was used by God to create a mate for the first man in Eve. Adam reveals to Jack and Dean that one of his ribs has enough of the spark of the divine to create life, as well as destroy God. In conjunction with Jack strengthening his vessel with Grigori hearts and regaining his soul through the Occultum, using the energy within Adam's rib would cause an elemental chain reaction inside Jack's body that fused Jack's soul and grace into a metaphysical supernova, turning him into a living black hole for divine energy. However, this plan was revealed to be another manipulation of Chuck's. Billie temporarily teleported Jack to the Empty, making the Cosmic Entity absorb the explosion. As a result, Jack became a power vacuum for life energy, absorbing power wherever he goes. Jack begins absorbing celestial power when Michael and Lucifer battle each other in the Bunker and absorbed cosmic power when Chuck killed Michael and whaled on Sam and Dean, making Jack powerful enough to steal Chuck's power. As a result, Jack becomes the New God and Chuck is rendered human, completing Adam's revenge on God.
A piece of the original Ark of the Covenant is found by the Nazi's archaeological branch, known as the Ahnenerbe and described as the Hand of God. A Woman of Letters, Delphine Seydoux, is sent undercover to retrieve it from the SS Officer Befehlsleiter Gumprecht. Upon confirming its authenticity, Delphine stabs Gumprecht in the neck and steals away with the Hand of God onto the USS Bluefin for transport to the U.S. where it was to be brought to the Men of Letters Bunker. When Sam and Dean discover the existence of the Hand of God in 2016, they have "Castiel" (Lucifer) time travel with Dean to 1943 to retrieve it from the ill-fated USS Bluefin before the sub is lost forever. Due to Delphine placing specialized warding sigils on the sub, Lucifer was not able to get past the hull, allowing only Dean to make it on the sub.
Dean quickly comes clean to Delphine and Captain Deerborn about who he is and that the sub will be sunk. He asks Delphine to give him the Hand of God, telling her he is fighting his own Biblical war in the future. Delphine agrees and begins breaking the sigils painted on the ship, to allow Dean transport back to 2016. When Befehlsleiter Gumprecht tracks the sub down and cripples it with depth charges, Dean asks Delphine how he can use the Hand of God to save them. Delphine denies him, out of worry he will be killed and the Hand of God will just end up back in Nazi hands. Delphine takes the Hand of God into her hand and becomes imbued with its power, becoming bathed in a blinding white light that destroys any trace of the USS Bluefin as well as blasting a hole in the German destroyer above them and burning everything and everyone on it before sinking.
Before the ships were destroyed, Lucifer was able to break through as the Hand of God destroyed the warding carved on Delphine and bring back Dean and the Hand of God to 2016. Back at the Bunker, Sam warns Dean that Castiel isn't Cas. Lucifer reveals himself and telekinetically slams Dean into a pillar. Lucifer then unwraps the Hand of God, taking it into his hands, which has no effect. All its power having been used by Delphine to destroy the German destroyer.
The Rod of Aaron was given to Moses's brother Aaron by God on the sixth day and is capable of incredible destructive power. It was sought out by Lucifer during his search for weapons to defeat the Darkness, but was used by Crowley in a failed gambit to kill Lucifer. Crowley described holding it as, "So this is what it feels like to be God," and seemed to suffer no negative side effects from its use although after attacking Lucifer, its power was dissipated.
Crowley is able to track down the Horn of Joshua in the An-Nafud Desert in Saudi Arabia. He meets a man named Noel, who made a deal with Crowley ten years prior. In exchange for the Horn of Joshua, Crowley promises to destroy their contract freeing his soul. Upon receiving the Horn of Joshua, Crowley destroys the contract, however he snaps Noel's neck and causes Noel's men to shoot themselves before leaving.
With the Horn in possession, Crowley rendezvous with the Winchesters and the three formulate a plan. Crowley tells the Winchesters he will only give them the Horn if they summon and trap Lucifer to expel him from Castiel's vessel and put him back in the Cage. The Winchesters argue that they need Lucifer to stop Amara, but Crowley is steadfast with removing Lucifer from the equation. After summoning and trapping him, Lucifer shows to be more formidable when the warding and holy fire eventually fail. Lucifer is able to gain possession of the Horn of Joshua, and as he is about to deliver a killing blow to the Winchesters, Amara bursts through the doors of the abandoned church. Lucifer then proceeds to absorb the power of the Horn, and directs it towards Amara, hitting and engulfing her in a bright white light. But when everything settles, Amara appears to be still standing and unfazed by the attack.
In the Bunker, Dean theorizes that the Hand of God must be used by one of God's chosen if it will have any effect on the Darkness. Which explains why it had no effect on Amara when Lucifer used it because he was cast out.
