History
History
In the beginning there was the Darkness, and then God. God began to create worlds and beings to satisfy himself and his sister, to show her there can be more to existencethan just the two of them. But for every world He would create, the Darkness would destroy it. Knowing that destroying the Darkness would cause a fatal disruption in the Cosmic Balance, God would eventually go on to create the archangels, and battle her until they finally managed to trick her and lock her away. Trusting the lock and key -- a special Mark -- to his most trusted son, Lucifer.
With his sister locked away, God, as Metatron put it, "got down to unfettered creation." He would go on to create the first beasts, the Leviathans. However, God became concerned at their destructiveness, and locked them away in Purgatory. Soon after He created the angels and their classes, crating the Host of Heaven. Hellhounds were created at some point to be "Creator's best friend," as Crowley put it, however their viciousness proved to be too much for God, which led to him having them all destroyed, except for one, Ramsey, who was rescued by Lucifer. Soon, God would create the soul, and would go on to gift it to humanity, dubbing them his most beautiful and loved creations. He then ordered all of His angels to bow before humanity and love them more than Him, but Lucifer refused to bow down, as the other angels did. The Mark eventually began asserting its own will, becoming the first curse, corrupting Lucifer and enhancing his jealously of man, causing his fall from grace. On God's command Lucifer was cast out of Heaven by Michael and imprisoned in the Cage, but not before Lucifer created the first demons, and passing the Mark to Cain.
Only the archangels have ever seen God, until God revealed himself to Metatron to take down the Word. The angel Joshua was the only known angel to have had conversations with Him prior to God revealing himself as Chuck Shurley to Metatron and the Winchesters. Even after revealing himself, God still prefers to be called "Chuck" as being called "God" and treated with praise makes him "deeply uncomfortable." At some point out of sheer disappointment in his creations, God left Heaven, after witnessing what nature could create on it's own, he began taking a hands-off approach. Michael assumed command of the angels, and then ran Heaven and Earth for millennia. Both Uriel and Raphael lost faith in their maker, stating that God must be dead, although most angels believed that He still existed.
Chuck tells the Winchesters that he only interferes directly when things get "Me-level" apocalyptic on Earth, to the point where the main threat rivals his power. He offers his aid to the Winchesters as the prophet "Chuck Shurley" to prevent the Apocalypse from coming to pass, as well as to have a front row seat to the Apocalypse. He hides in BG's Canteen when Amara is released, but Metatron convinced Him to help the Winchesters stop his sister from destroying the universe. However, Amara managed to mortally wound Chuck, causing a disruption in the Cosmic Balance. When Dean managed to convince Amara to put her rage aside and tell her brother what she really wants, the two siblings reconcile and Chuck and Amara leave to have a family meeting, but not before Chuck defuses the soul bomb from Dean's chest and Amara revives Mary Winchester as a gesture of thanks to Dean for giving her what she needed most.
While there are alternate versions of Death, archangels, angels, demons and most humans in alternate universes such as Apocalypse World, Michael of Apocalypse World believed there was only one God and put forth a theory that when God realizes a world is flawed, he moves onto another universe and starts again. When His theory is proven to be true when Sam confronts discovered that he has been manipulating everything in the Winchesters' lives as part of a sick story. Chuck about this, He does not give Sam a straight answer, but tells even told Sam that of all the alternative versions of the Winchesters throughout the multiverse, Sam and Dean are his favorites because they are so interesting. He tried to trick them into killing Jack because he is scared of his grandson and it was how "the story" is supposed to end. When the Winchesters refuse to kill Jack and no longer want any part of his story, Chuck ultimately decides to kill Jack himself and release all the souls from Hell to kill them and end the world.
