The term "God" is used in Supernatural to refer to the Judeo-Christian deity. Not much is known about God in Supernatural Canon, however it is known that God began all sources of life 5.02 Good God Y'All, according to Castiel, and this was also explored in 5.04 The End , when Lucifer made the statement, "Earth is God's great handy work." This proves that God in supernatural canon is like the one in different texts including the Bible. His true powers and his true origin still remain unknown and unclear. According to Raphael God is dead, however according to Cass god remains alive.

The Christian God was first referenced directly in 2.13 Houses of the Holy. As the boys investigate a series of murders where people say they were directed to kill by an angel, a messenger of God, we learn that Sam prays on a regular basis. When Dean witnesses a man who attacked a woman killed in a freak accident, he wonders whether he had seen 'the hand of God' at work.

  • God began all sources of life and he formed the Earth from nothing

  • Anna Milton tells Dean that only four angels have seen God. 4.10 Heaven And Hell In other words God's True Face has been truly reveled to only four of his angels.
  • God made Angel's to be his soldiers and his messengers
  • It has been reveled many times over that God prefers Humans over his angels. Uriel made this fact clear to Cass; this was before they engaged in an angelic battle. Ruby also mentioned this fact to Sam.

Castiel: He isn't in Heaven. He has to be somewhere.

Dean: Try New Mexico. I hear he's on a tortilla.

Castiel: No, he's not on any flatbread.

– , 5.02 Good God Y'All

  • Castiel states that aside from Michael God is the only one strong enough to defeat Lucifer and end the apocalypse, and so he begins a quest to find him. Castiel thinks that while God has been absent, it was he who resurrected him and saved the boys from Lucifer. He reveals that Dean's Amulet is very powerful and that it "burns hot in God's presence", and so borrows it from Dean to help in his quest. 5.02 Good God Y'All
  • The Archangel Raphael tells Dean and Castiel that God is dead - as this is the only explanation for the horrible things have happened on Earth over the last hundred years and God's continuing silence. Dean encourages Castiel, who still believes God is not dead, to continue his search. 5.03 Free To Be You And Me
