A Fan Fic Archive is a site specifically set up to house fanfiction.

As of 2011, Livejournal and Fanfiction.net had been the major sites for creative works in the Supernatural fandom, and had acted as defacto archives for the bulk of Supernatural fan fic. As of 2015, many authors are now using Archive Of Our Own, a multifandom archive run by the Organization of Transformative Works. Over the years, numerous Supernatural-specific fan fic archives sites have been set up.

Searching

Fanfiction.net and ArchiveOfOurOwn.org are set up to be searchable by key terms.

On Livejournal, there is no site-wide method to search for a fanfiction, although some LiveJournal communities do maintain an index. For example, Supernatural fic, the largest single fanfiction community, has a comprehensive tagging system, so stories are searchable by author, rating, genre, pairing, and specific episodes.

The Supernatural Fic Link Archive tags all the stories listed in the spnnewsletter producing a searchable archive of links of fan fiction at delicious as of December 2009. Fics are searchable by author, category, rating and pairing. Almost 40,000 stories have been tagged as of January 2011.


Fanfic Archives

  • Archive Of Our Own (aka AO3) - multifandom archive run by the Organization of Transformative Works. In March 2010, AO3 had just over 2,000 fanworks; and in August 2011, more than 10,000 works. A significant migration began in 2011 (see FanLore.org for more info), and by December 2012, AO3 had 27,500 works. In January 2013, AO3 had 30,000 Supernatural stories, and 50,000 as of August 2013. That number doubled over the next year, and by February 2014, AO3 had more than 60,000 stories. As of January 2015, has over 92,000 Supernatural stories, and has surpassed surpassed FanFiction.net's archive in size. See AO3/tags/Supernatural for stories and current counts.
  • FanFiction.net - Multifandom archive. As of January 2015, it has 78,000 Supernatural stories.
  • Sam/Dean - an archive which focuses on Sam/Dean and is Wincest friendly. Over 3,400 stories (January 2013). As of January 2015, the archive is mostly inactive, with 3,880 stories.
  • Sinful Desire - a fanfic archive (Wincest-centric). Over 4,000 stories (January 2013); 4,451 stories (January 2015).
  • SupernaturalFanFiction.com - Several hundred stories at best estimate as of January 2015.
  • Supernaturalville.com, the home page for SPN's Virtual Season project.
  • Supernatural Fanfiction Tumblr
  • Winchester Journal "Don't Fear the Reaper" - a fic archive and gallery. 32 stories as of Jan. 2015.

  • Wattpad - Wattpad is a free app that lets you read and share stories with people around the world. Wattpad started as a home for original fiction but has grown to be a place for younger readers of fanfiction as well. As of March 2015, Wattpad has over 39,000 Supernatural fics, 302,159 Supernatural chapters/parts uploaded and on average 18.5 million minutes of Supernatural fic read each month.
