Season 5 Easter Eggs

An Easter Egg is defined by the Urban Dictionary as A hidden item placed in a movie, television show, or otherwise visual media for close watchers.

Recurring Theme

The recurring theme of the Easter eggs throughout season 5 has been the same. All references focus on an episode from season one specifically 1.13 Route 666 Some of these references are subtle and less noticeable while others are quite overt.

Significance [Speculative]

It is possible the continued references hint at the fact that since the apocalypse is now ongoing, the entire planet is on the road to hell. Or more specifically, all roads lead to the devil who's mark is the number "666".

Episode List

Below is a detailed list of all the specific instances where the episode title "Route 666" or it's designation "01 13" have been located so far. Further updates will be included as episodes are aired.

5.01 "Sympathy For The Devil"

Location: Chuck Shurley's home.

As the camera pans across the ruin of the prophet's house it lands for a moment on a battered copy of one of his books "Route 666"

Location: Becki's Bedroom

The shot opens on a poster on the wall of Fangirl Becki's bedroom. The first poster in the shot is "Route 666"

Location: Bobby's Hospital Room, St. Martin's Hospital

The number on the door to Bobby's room is 113, denoting the season and episode number of "Route 666" which is Season 1, Episode 13.

5.02 "Good God, Y'all"

Location: Bobby's Hospital Room, St. Martin's Hospital

The number on the door to Bobby's room is 113, again, representing the Season and episode number of "Route 666"

So far this is the only Easter egg I've been able to locate in episode 2.

5.03 "Free To Be You And Me"

Location: Sam's Motel Room

The digital clock on the bedside table reads 11:13 after Jess disappears.

Location: Sam's Cell Phone

The display on Sam's cell phone shows Dean's number as (212)-555-0113

X Files Connection

It should be noted that during it's run the hit show "The X Files", a show producer/director Kim Manners was an integral part of, would frequently include the Easter egg "10 13" . Ten Thirteen is the name of the production company founded by Xfiles creator Chris Carter. The number represents the creator's birthday which is October 13th.
