Detroit is first mentioned in 5.04 The End. Future!Dean tells Dean that Sam was in Detroit when he assented to become Lucifer's vessel.

In the present day, Lucifer reiterates this to Sam, as he prepares to summon Death. He tells Sam that he will say agree to be his vessel "within six months. And I think it'll happen in Detroit."5.10 Abandon All Hope. Lucifer's prediction turns out to be true. Sam did consent to Lucifer in episode 5.22 Swan Song.

In spite of Lucifer being correct in his prediction, things did turn out differently than Zachariah's vision illustrated. For one, not everyone was infected with the Croatoan Virus like in they were in 5.04 The End, The Angels didn't bail out and leave Heaven. But, there were many similarities between the episodes: 5.04 The End and 5.22 Swan Song.
