Death can summon the weapon to his or her their hands and alter its physical appearance between the traditional scythe or a sickle. In the original Death's possession, this weapon took on a more rustic shape, but the scythe later adopted a more Gothic style in Billie's possession, and a Halloween-themed motif when briefly summoned by Betty. According to Crowley, the scythe is capable of killing anything, including angels, demons, reapers, and Death itself.<ref name="five21">[[5.21 Two Minutes to Midnight]]</ref><ref name="ten23">[[10.23 Brother's Keeper]]</ref> The scythe is so powerful that it kills anything the blade slices, regardless of whether the wound inflicted by its blade is fatal. Even just being slashed in the shoulder with it was enough to fester, leaving [[Billie]] mortally wounded. When her hand was slashedsliced after holding back the blade in self-defense, it became visibly shriveled very briefly afterwards.<ref name="fifteen18" />

After being turned into the new [[Death]] by [[Lucifer]], [[Betty]] manifests a new scythe. This scythe once more takes on a different shape, with a long uneven wooden pole for a handle and a curved metal head. It's unknown what happened to the scythe after Betty is killed by Lucifer as Betty didn't have it on her at the time.
