Deanna Campbell is a hunter married to Samuel Campbell. She is the mother of Mary Winchester and the grandmother of Dean and Sam Winchester, as well as Dean's namesake.

History

Dean meets Deanna when Castiel sends him back to 1973 to try and stop Azazel from interfering with his family. Deanna takes her husband's anti-social tendencies in stride, and invites Dean, a stranger, to dinner in spite of Samuel's gruff dismissal of him. When Azazel possesses Samuel to suss out Dean, Deanna hides nearby, watching. She tries to reach the Colt when Azazel stabs Samuel in the stomach, but Azazel snaps her neck, killing her before she can use it. Deanna's resurrection is not on the table when Azazel makes his deal with young Mary.

Trivia

Deanna also appears in a flashback sequence in the spin-off novel Supernatural: Heart of the Dragon, which shows her, Samuel and Mary on a hunt in San Francisco in 1969; this novel also mentions that Deanna occasionally works as a substitute teacher to finance her family's Hunts.
