Revision as of 07:05, 2 November 2013

There's no doubt that Dean loves watching films and television shows. Thoughout the series Dean often makes reference to either a film or TV show.

In compiling this list I have only listed films that Dean has directly mentioned. It also includes films where they have used aliases (making the assumption that if Dean knows the names he will know the film). I have not included references that have been said to Dean.

For more information on the movies and references please see the individual episode listings.

Sam: Dean can recite every Clint Eastwood Movie ever made. (6.18)

Dean: I gotta tell you Untouchables is like one of my favorite movies ever. I must've seen it like 50 times. (7.12)

+ Dean's probably referencing the movie rather than the stage musical. Though it's not clear which one.

NOTABLY:

There are 2 instances where Dean does not understand a movie reference directed at him. We can assumehe has not seen these movies:

Mary Poppins (3.08 A Very Supernatural Christmas)

DEAN: So, was I right? Is it the serial-killing chimney sweep?

SAM: Yep. It's, uh, it’s actually Dick Van Dyke.

DEAN: Who?

SAM: Mary Poppins.

DEAN: Who’s that?

SAM: Oh come on— never mind. (Waves his hand)

It's a Wonderful Life (9.03 I'm No Angel)

Dean: He's getting cagey - he's using a fake name. Clarence.

Sam: That's what Meg used to call him. Of course he doesn't get that he's using the name of a pretty famous angel.

Dean: What?

Sam: Dude! "It's a Wonderful Life"! Seriously!
