The Winchesters Episodes

1.01 Pilot (The Winchesters)

Dean writes in his journal about the Akrida before driving off in the Impala.

1.13 Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye

Joan Hopkins provided John and Mary with the journal as all that's left of Dean after she threw him and the Impala into a portal that would tear them to pieces. Later, Mary, Lata and Millie feed the journal to the Ostium in an attempt to bring Dean back. Instead, they bring back the Impala which appears nearby.

After the defeat of the Akrida, Dean gives his parents his journal to help guide them through hunting as John's Journal did for him along with the Colt and a warning about Azazel. John and Mary bring it with them as they set out to figure out their future together. Having read some of the journal, Mary quotes to John that "driver picks the music, shotgun shuts their cakehole," something that Dean was very specific on.
