"Clarence" is a nickname for Castiel used by the demon Meg. The name is a reference to the movie It's A Wonderful Life, in which the angel Clarence shows Jimmy Stewart that life is worth living, and then finally gets his wings and goes to heaven.

After Lucifer traps Castiel in a ring of holy fire and leaves Meg alone with him, she gloats to Castiel that the demons are going to win the war,
- "We're gonna win. Can you feel it? You cloud-hopping pansies lost the whole damn universe. Lucifer's gonna take over heaven. We're going to heaven, Clarence."'
6.10 Caged Heat
In order to storm the prison Crowley is using to hold his monsters, Sam and Dean work with Meg. When she reunites with Castiel, she says,
- "Remember me? I sure remember you, Clarence."
7.17 The Born-Again Identity
After an amnesic Castiel smites the demons guarding Northern Indiana State Hospital, Meg remarks,
- "That was beautiful, Clarence."
8.17 Goodbye Stranger
Whilst Castiel is cleaning her wounds, Meg asks,
- "Why are you so sweet on me, Clarence?"
and Castiel replies,
- "I don't know. And I still don't know who Clarence is."
9.03 I'm No Angel
Castiel adopts the name Clarence as a cover when he is human. After learning of this and recognizing it as Meg's nickname for Castiel, Sam comments on the irony of Castiel using the name of a famous angel as his alias.
15.06 Golden Time
Castiel uses the alias FBI Special Agent Clarence Worley while hunting a djinn in Wyoming. Clarence Worley is Christian Slater's character from True Romance.
15.13 Destiny's Child
The Cosmic Entity, after adopting Meg's form to communicate, greets Castiel with Meg's trademark "Hello, Clarence" and continues to refer to him as such throughout their interactions.
