Charity Projects

Fandom has a tradition of coming together to do good works and here have been a number of fan projects centered around raising money for charity in the Supernatural fandom.

• Eric Kripke donated his nominee prize from the 2009 People's Choice Awards, where Supernatural won for best Sci-fi show, to raise fund for Haiti.

• Winchester Bros website ran a fundraiser to celebrate Supernatural's 100th episode in January 2009.
• Assistant Director Kevin Parks of the Supernatural Crew is taking part in the "Ride to Conquer Cancer" from Vancouver to Seattle in June. He's doing this in honor of Kim Manners. Supernatural fans can find out more information and donate here.
• Support Supernatural - brings Supernatural fans together to raise money for charity in the name of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. All 2010 fundraising efforts can be found at this page
• Superknitural - a charity knitting project
• Sweet Charity - a multifandom project where fans "auction" their services in producing a fanwork (fic, video, art) or other good such as jewelery, and the money raised goes to charity.
• Fandom Rocks - Helping people, changing things: the fandom business. Started in June, 2007, Fandom Rocks is a fan-run initiative to raise funds and awareness for charities around the globe. The project wound up in February 2010.
• SPN Fans United Against Hunger
• Minion Stimulus was started by Misha's Minions with support from Misha Collins to raise money for charity. This then developed into Random Acts
• Operation: Winchester was a fan project to send Supernatural Season 1 DVD set to US troops overseas
• Fundraising for The John Wayne Cancer Foundation by Jim Beaver fans.
• Following his death, Kim Manners' family requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The American Cancer Society in Memory of Kim. Supernatural fans on Livejournal donated $1650 to the The American Cancer Society within a week of his death.
• WinchesterCon/Wincon - each year chooses a charity and conducts a raffle during the con to raise money.
• KazCon - In 2009 held a charity auction with proceeds going to National Lung Cancer Partnership in Memory of Kim Manners
• Support for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts
• In response to the Haiti earthquake on 12 January 2010, Supernatural fan pinkfinity set up help_haiti on Livejournal, a pan fandom effort to auction fan services and raise money. Misha Collins set up a donation site for UNICEF relief efforts. Report of fandom fundraising efforts.

Other professional Conventions also often raises money for charity. At All Hell Breaks Loose Sydney 2009 t-shirts decorated by Jared and Jensen sold for thousands of dollars to raise money for the Starlight Foundation. Read an article about one fan who bid paid over $1,200 for Jared's t-shirt.

At Salute to Supernatural Chicago 2009, Jared auctioned a watch he'd worn as Sam Winchester to raise money for students from his mother's school to go to the University Interscholastic League, which Jared himself had attended as a student.
