5.02 Good God, Y'All

Austin is one of the surviving townspeople in River Pass, Colorado. Led by Ellen Harvelle, they survived a supposed demon attack and are now hiding in the basement of the local church. When Dean and Sam are teaching the townspeople how to operate guns, Austin displays proficiency with disassembling a rifle, then explains to Dean that he served two tours in Iraq.

When trying to figure out what omens led Rufus to town, Austin explains that the river ran polluted last Wednesday and the mass demon possessions began the following day. He also mentions a big shooting star that was seen on the Wednesday too and assumes Dean thinks their demon problem came from space.

Later, Austin is the one who lets War back into the basement. War then proceeds to manipulate the townspeople into believing Dean and Ellen are possessed, leading Austin to begin shooting, hitting the door instead.

Austin leads the townspeople out of the church, planning to hunt the demons with shotguns. He eventually finds Ellen and throws her to the ground, still under the impression that she's possessed. He aims his gun at her face and pulls the trigger, but he's out of bullets. He then pulls out a knife and Ellen struggles with him until Sam and Dean cut off War's ring and he eases off when he sees that Ellen is not actually possessed.
