The Darkness, often called by her other name Amara, is a supremely powerful primordial entity who has existed since before the beginning of time, predating both God and Death, who were of similar age. Sometime later, after her brother God came into being, he created the Archangels to fight a terrible war against her. Through the combined power of God and the Archangels, God sealed her away, not wanting to kill her, by using the Mark of Cain as both a lock and key. God revealed that he chose not to kill her in her weakened state as she needed to exist with himself so reality wouldn't be destroyed. Whilst the Archangels battled her and thus knew of her existence, she is so ancient and mysterious that the Demons and even the Angels, except for Metatron, didn't believe she existed or was locked away. However, Metatron knew about her and who she was, as he was God's scribe. Both Heaven and Hell thought it to be a "myth" or "scary bedtime story", told to keep others in line.

When Rowena used a spell from the Book of the Damned in order to free Dean Winchester of the Mark (which he gained from Cain to kill Abaddon and had been bearing it since), the Darkness was unleashed once again. While on Earth, The Darkness has taken the body of a female baby, Amara. Since regaining her power by consuming human souls, she matured and grew into a young woman in just a few months. As a young woman, she has also developed a romantic affection for Dean, and is possibly in love with him.

With Dean's help, the Darkness reconciled with her brother and departed the Earth with him, but not before leaving Dean a thank you present.

History

Before there was light, before there was God and the Archangels, there wasn't nothing. There was the Darkness, a horribly destructive, amoral force that was beaten back by God and his Archangels in a terrible war. God locked the Darkness away where it could do no harm, and he created a Mark that would serve as both lock and key, which he entrusted to his most valued lieutenant, Lucifer. But the Mark began to exert its own will, revealed itself as a curse, and began to corrupt. Lucifer became jealous of man. God banished Lucifer to Hell. Lucifer passed the Mark to Cain, who passed the Mark to you, the proverbial finger in the dike. – Death, Brother's Keeper

According to Death, the Darkness existed before the Universe, light, and even God, her younger brother. She is credited as a powerful, amoral, and horribly destructive force. Some time after God and Death came into being, God created many worlds to show The Darkness that there could be more than just the two of them, but she would always destroy them. Eventually, God created the four Archangels and battled The Darkness in "a terrible war". Whilst even together they couldn't destroy her, they managed to defeat her; God and his Archangels tricked her and eventually sealed her away with a mark that would later be called the Mark of Cain, though they only barely managed to lock her away. According to herself, Lucifer and God conspired to seal her away, and she implied it was her trust in Lucifer that led to her downfall. God then gave the Mark to Lucifer, his favorite angel and most valued lieutenant, to guard and protect, and the Darkness had been locked away ever since. The Mark, however, began to exert its own will and revealed itself to be a curse. It corrupted Lucifer, leading to a chain of events that would see Lucifer refuse to bow down before humans and be cast out of Heaven. Lucifer then transferred the Mark on to Cain who then, thousands of years later, passed it on to Dean Winchester.

The Darkness unleashed

The Mark of Cain on the arm of Dean Winchester was eventually removed with the Mark of Cain Removal Spell by the witch Rowena. As Dean was the only living host of the mark remaining, the Darkness was unleashed once more. Immediately after she broke out of her prison, she rained down destruction and made a move to consume everything in her path. Her release caused such strong disturbances in Hell, that Lucifer's Cage was damaged as a side effect, which eventually allowed Lucifer to influence the outside world.

Shortly after breaking out of her prison, she spared Sam and Dean's life and thanked Dean for freeing her. She mentioned that she already helped him and Dean helped her. Bound for eternity, they will always help each other. Michael or Lucifer recognized her release and both of them tried to warn the outside world. She temporarily assumed the form of an adult female human, but has since become one with a human baby, going by the name of Amara.

Humans infected by the Darkness

Following the Darkness' release, Sam begins searching for a cure for the people infected by her. His search led him to find that Holy Fire cures her victims, but as Amara the Darkness began displaying telekinesis, causing Jenna to call Dean back. Her grandmother called an exorcist who was actually Crowley and Dean finds the Mark of Cain on Amara's chest, immediately realizing she is the Darkness. Amara had consumed Jenna's soul and shortly afterward grew into a little girl. Amara left and later encountered Crowley who offered her people to feed off of.

Crowley took Amara to his base on Earth where he assigned her a demonic "nanny" and began educating her about what has happened since she was locked away. He was essentially spoiling her with literally whatever she asked for so as to assure her allegiance. Amara, for the most part, proved complacent and calm, asking Crowley many questions about the world God created while she was learning but expressed a slight fear of him. She even came to call Crowley "Uncle Crowley" despite the fact that she was eons older than him. All the while, however, she began to plot with a reflection of herself in a mirror behind Crowley's back.

Template:Quote Amara is constantly hungry for souls to consume, which Crowley (at first) happily (and later reluctantly) facilitated by feeding her random demons in deceased vessels. Amara's appetite only grew to greater levels and eventually resulted in her consuming both of her demonic nannies and her taking on an older form, much to the concern of Crowley. When Crowley tried to dissuade her from consuming more demonic souls, she became angry and demanded to be fed.

Some time later and unbeknownst to Crowley, Amara left Hell to explore the Earth and observe the humans. Her travels eventually brought her to Fall River, Massachusetts where she came across the Lizzie Borden Hotel and Museum as well as the Lizzie Borden super-fan Len. After chatting with him briefly, Amara then devoured Len's soul, which subsequently extinguished his passion for Borden altogether and robbed him of his conscience. Amara then continued a spree of soul-devouring both in the hotel and in the surrounding area, resulting in a short series of gruesome axe murders by one of her victims which were initially believed the work of the ghost of Lizzie herself by the Winchesters, who had come to Fall River to investigate. The streak ended when Len saved the brothers by axing the real killer in the back while she had Sam at gunpoint and the Winchesters left Fall River to pursue Amara, but as they drove away, Amara emerged from out of a treeline, smiled and simply said "Thank you, Dean", evoking her earlier promise that Dean would always help her in the end.

Teenage Amara

Crowley became increasingly worried by Amara's voracious appetite as she continued to consume demons faster than they could be produced. Tired of her sneaking out to snack on human souls, Crowley subdued her in a display of power to curb her rebelliousness and worked out a shaky agreement with her to diet and be patient. Amara reluctantly agreed. While on her new regime, the Winchester brothers tracked her and Crowley to an abandoned insane asylum and busted in intent upon killing Amara. While Sam held Crowley's demons at bay, Dean marched into Amara's room with the demon knife and went to attack her but was stopped and pinned to a pillar by Crowley. Set on finally killing Dean and Sam once and for all, Crowley was ironically thwarted by Amara, who betrayed him by pinning him against a wall and torturing him into guaranteeing safe passage out for Dean. Amara then declared her alliance with Crowley over. Crowley had no choice but to comply and then fled. Amara released Dean and stood before him a knife in hand but try as he might, Dean could not raise a hand against her, in keeping with her vow that neither would ever hurt the other. Dean demanded to know her intentions, to which Amara simply replied that she was out to settle a score - the oldest score. The Winchesters in vain tried to attack her simultaneously but Amara telekinetically flung them away and marched out of the asylum before vanishing. Later on, she was seen walking down a busy street admiring the human beings.

Amara is enraged

In time, Amara, at last, gained the form she had originally taken upon her release and set about tracking down God so as to settle her score. Scouting across the globe, she attacked and slaughtered hundreds of humans in various religious sects both to learn about his universe's rules and in an effort to draw her brother out of hiding, but was visibly and violently frustrated each and every time as God continually failed to appear or intervene in any way. Eventually, her activities drew the attention of the Winchesters yet again, who were in the midst of preparing to visit Lucifer's Cage with Crowley and Rowena. Dean traveled to her last known location, a church, and sensed her presence through their bond.

Amara meets Dean

After meeting up with Dean, Amara teleported Dean and herself to the countryside and engaged him in conversation. She attempted to explain her actions by criticizing God and his universe due to his detachment from his beloved creations, the pain they endured, and his apparent need to be worshiped and loved by all. She claimed that, if she were allowed her way, there would be no pain, no sorrow, no rules, just bliss. Her words had no effect on Dean who stubbornly accused her of seeking to become the new 'God', to which Amara replied that God was the light, and she was the dark. She also revealed she was once all that there was, and she sought to reestablish that state. Dean attempted to stab her with a silver knife but the blade shattered upon the impact. Completely unfazed by the attack, Amara derided Dean's efforts to resist and closed in on him as if to consume his soul, but instead kissed him passionately, declaring that their bond was unbreakable and that in the end, she and Dean would be together and become one.

Before Dean could reply, a small group of angels appeared out of nowhere and attacked Amara but she butchered them with ease. The entire angelic population in Heaven then took aim at her from the heavens, combined all their power as one and prepared to open fire on Amara in a last ditch effort to destroy her with a single ferocious celestial blast. Amara exchanged one last pained look with Dean before teleporting him away to safety as she prepared to meet the angelic attack head-on.

The Darkness reintegrates herself

Dean meets with Castiel in order to check if the combined angel smite took the Darkness down. The power of the blast caused some kind of supernatural fallout and Dean is unable to proceed closer to the impact area. Castiel eventually meets with the angel Ambriel who was sent by heaven to verify if Amara was killed. The whole area is clouded in Darkness and they decide to team up and search the area. Ambriel eventually found her lying unconsciously on the ground. As she comes closer and touches Amara, the Darkness woke up. Alarmed by his partner's scream Castiel watched in shock as the Darkness consumed Ambriel's grace. Amara merges with the Darkness around her and is amused as Castiel threatens to stab her with his angel blade. Easily overpowering Castiel, she decided to spare his life since he wasn't even worth the effort to consume his essence. She sent him back to Billie to deliver the message: "I am coming"

Months later, the Darkness still felt the impact of the combined angel smiting but with the help of Rowena and a powerful spell, she was able to heal her vessel. Rowena tried to convince the Darkness of her usefulness, adding that she could provide knowledge and help her design her world. Amara then tested her healed vessel by sending a powerful blast towards Heaven, which caused a heavy disturbance there as well as lightning on Earth.

Meanwhile, Crowley teams up with the Winchesters in hopes of using the Horn of Joshua against Lucifer. Sam and Dean however, believe that the weapon used by Lucifer can destroy the Darkness. They also prepared a trap in order to give Castiel some time to either reject Lucifer or leave his vessel. With the help of Rowena, they were able to finally summon Lucifer. Lucifer asked for the Hand of God but Dean tried to reach out to Castiel with a spell. However, Lucifer quickly regained control of the vessel, running out of time, Crowley possessed Lucifer but also failed to free Castiel. As the wardings could no longer hold Lucifer, he was about to kill Sam and Dean. In this moment the Darkness blasted through the walls of the building. After a short conversation, Lucifer obtained power from the Hand of God and released an immense blast on Amara to no avail as she was completely unharmed.

Amara telekinetically pulled Lucifer, who was visibly shocked, to her. She released Sam and Dean from Lucifer's telekinetic grip and said to Lucifer that they need to have a chat, apporting them both away. Pinned against the wall, Lucifer tried to convince the Darkness that they both share anger towards God and that he is willing to team up with her. Amara eventually agrees, but not quite as Lucifer hoped: she came to think that Lucifer might be the proper tool to lure out God, since Lucifer might be the one thing in all of creation, that God still cares about. She announced that her brother will watch the destruction of all of existence before his own death. Amara raised her hands and began to torture her nephew, who subsequently began to scream in agony.

Some time after she captured Lucifer, Amara unleashed a deadly fog on a small town, which captured the attention of Sam and Dean. They quickly came to realize that Amara is responsible for this. Influenced by Amara, an infected police officer told Dean that God won't save them and that everything that exists will vanish forever - except Dean and Amara herself. Once the fog threatened to cloud the whole city, most people hid in the police station, including Sam and Dean. They tried to prevent the fog from penetrating the police station, but eventually failed and Sam got infected as well. In desperation, Dean demanded God's help. Due to his conversation with Metatron, God came to think that he should not abandon his creations. Dean's amulet began to glow, implicating God's presence. God erased the fog and also healed and resurrected all the people affected by the plague.

Amara continues to torture Lucifer in an attempt to force him to call out to God and sends more fog to try to draw God out. When it fails, Amara projects an image of herself and Lucifer into Dean's mind to try to get him to let God know of Lucifer's predicament. Amara later contacts Dean again, asking to meet with him privately.

Dean eventually agrees to meet with Amara in a forest and she asks him to become a part of her and to give up his state of being. Amara and Dean both acknowledge the feelings they have for each other, even though Dean is frightened by their affections. Dean resists her desire for them to become one, and Amara realizes that he has met with God and is now protected from her mentally. Amara realizes that she has been betrayed and returns to her lair where Sam, Metatron and Donatello have rescued Lucifer. Metatron uses an angel banishing sigil on Amara, but she is simply amused by his efforts. Metatron tells Amara that God meant well and asks her to spare the universe. Enraged, Amara replies with a "spare this" and implodes him into nothingness.

As Sam, Lucifer and Donatello race away in the Impala, Amara appears in the middle of the road and stops the car. As she prepares to kill them, God teleports the car to the Bunker.

In search of God, Amara enters the home of Donatello and attacks him, demanding he tell her the whereabouts of God. When Donatello refuses, Amara absorbs his soul and gains the knowledge. She travels to Kansas and enters the Men of Letters' Bunker, after having taken down the wardings.

She appears on the war room table and notices God's mug, which she kicks out of annoyance. She then begins her search inside the bunker. She eventually enters Dean's room and finds a photograph of Dean with his mother, Mary Winchester, and appears to admire Dean's photo.

Suddenly, Rowena calls to her and offers to take her to God. Despite knowing it to be a trap, Amara leaves the bunker and heads to Rowena's location. Rowena urges her to go inside the warehouse, but Amara informs her of what she is aware. In response, Rowena attacks her with a lightning blast. Amara muses how it "tickles". She proceeds to mock Rowena for thinking one witch could harm her.

Rowena argues that she is not just one witch, and resumes her attack, this time empowered by other witches. This knocks Amara to her knees, but she soon rises up and deflects the spell, knocking Rowena away and killing the other witches. Just then, Heaven begins preparing for a combined smiting. Amara extends her arms out and screams as the blast comes for her.

The blast leaves Amara noticeably wounded but shortly after Amara finds herself attacked by demons in their smoke form. She struggles to swat them away, and the demons begin to levitate her into the air. Crowley exits the building and joins the fray, and hits Amara in his smoke form, knocking her into a car down below.

Now beaten and battered, Amara slowly marches in to the warehouse and discovers God waiting for her. They meet again for the first time since her imprisonment. She attempts to attack but Lucifer impales her from behind, injuring her further.

Amara admits defeat, saying God won and he should kill her, even if his reason for doing so may not be justifiable. Amara explains that she loved God, and they were equals together, but God went off and created lesser begins, such as the archangels, to boost his ego. God argues that life needed to be created, and that she wouldn't let him. He's sorry for what he did and begins sealing her away, this time using Sam as the bearer of the Mark.

Horrified, Amara strikes back and suffocates God, yelling how she'd rather die a million times and kill him a million more before going back to her prison. Lucifer tries to protect his father and charges at her again, but Amara simply sends him flying into a pillar and rips him out of Castiel's vessel, presumably killing him. Dean tries to defend God too but Amara deflects him as well.

Amara overpowers God.

God erupts in a ball of bright light and collapses onto the floor. Amara states that he's not dead, but dying, for she wants him to witness to destruction of everything he created. Upon declaring her intentions, Amara departs, apparently fully healed now.

After getting her revenge, Amara travels to a park where she notices that she is starting to be affected by God's state as well. While there, Amara meets an old lady who she talks about family with and despite how much the woman hates her son for trying to put her in a retirement home, she loves him anyway. Amara is emotionally affected by the discussion of family and upset as she reflects on what she did to her brother.

As the sun continues to die, Dean arrives armed with a soul bomb to kill Amara with. Amara explains that the universe is dying with God and her along with it. Amara admits to being conflicted on what she did to her brother to Dean who tells Amara that God doesn't want her dead either. Dean tells Amara about his fights with Sam but how at the end of the day he loves him anyway. After Amara mentions she thought her revenge would feel better than it does, Dean tells her it only feels good for about five minutes and urges her to find another way.

The Darkness and God leave the Earth

After speaking with Dean, Amara teleports God to their location and admits that he has created something beautiful. Amara explains that before God created the universe, it used to be just the two of them and she got jealous when he created other things. Amara tells God she knows they can't go back to before, but asks to have her brother back. God and Amara forgive each other and Amara heals the damage she did to God. After God removes the souls from Dean, he and Amara depart the Earth to have a "family meeting" to truly reconcile fully. Before leaving in a stream of darkness, Amara tells Dean that he gave her what she wanted most so she will do the same for him.

A while later, Dean finds that Amara resurrected his mother as a thanks.

Season 12

After finding his mother resurrected, Dean explains everything that has happened since she died including the fact that Amara resurrected her. Mary is stunned by the fact that God's sister resurrected her and Dean admits that it's a lot to take in.

When confronted by the Winchesters, Castiel and Crowley, Lucifer, who survived the Darkness' attack on him, tells them that he believes that God only needed his help to defeat the Darkness. As a result, Lucifer now believes that God only apologized to get his help and abandoned Lucifer once he didn't need him to fight the Darkness anymore.

Amara

Due to her imprisonment, Amara had no knowledge or understanding of how God's universe worked. However, after feeding on various souls and studying important points in human history, she finally came to the conclusion that her brother had "screwed up" when he made the world, saying that Heaven, Hell, good, evil, and even people seemed unimportant. When she was first released, she intended to remake the world as she saw fit: a world where nobody had to suffer, and instead lived blissfully for eternity. However, she also wanted to destroy everything that her brother had created to make him suffer.

In her younger forms, she was very impatient and easily became upset if she wasn't given what she wanted immediately, due to Crowley giving her whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it. As an adult, she said she deserved to have - and be - everything. As she was the beginning, so too would she be the end.

From the moment of her release, Amara became infatuated by Dean, as he'd been the one to release her (from her point of view). She said it was destiny that she had been released, and that they would one day become one. When they met for the first time since Amara "grew up" and became an adult, she kissed him passionately, saying it was "the future" and the inevitable result of their first meeting.

Amara heals her brother.

Eventually, it's revealed that Amara was only interested in Dean because she didn't want to be alone after getting revenge on God. Even then, she never meant to kill her brother, but rather to make him suffer for what he'd done to her. After getting her revenge, Amara realized that it didn't make her happy as she'd expected as no matter what, she still loved her brother. With the help of Dean, Amara realized that what she truly wanted was her brother back more than anything and was finally happy when she reconciled with God.

Power and Abilities

The Darkness is the most powerful entity in existence. In several instances, God stated that even with all four archangels fighting against her the first time, along with himself, victory was barely achieved. Even Death, a primordial being nearly as old as her brother and his equal in strength, showed to be very fearful of her, as he refused to remove the Mark of Cain from Dean unless he shared it with someone else, lest Amara be freed. Her release prompted God to hide out in what he dubbed the "safest place ever created", so he could be safe from her. Even after withstanding a combined but sequential attack by powerful supernatural beings (witches, every angel in Heaven, demons, and Lucifer), she still proved to be stronger than God when she stopped him from trapping her again, overpowered Lucifer at the same time, and fatally wounded her brother, all before regenerating fully and walking away. Not long after, upon reconciling with God, Amara was able to heal the fatal damage her nigh-omnipotent powers did to him, without any difficulty.

The Darkness can easily annihilate angels

• Immortality - The Darkness is immortal. Even the combined power of all the angels caused her no permanent harm. She was also unfazed by a Hand of God-empowered Lucifer. However it's been stated that she can die as she asked her brother God to kill her.
• Nigh-Invulnerability - Considering her ability to stand against God and his archangels, the Darkness has immense resilience to physical and supernatural attacks.
• Nigh-Omnipotence - Castiel describes The Darkness' power level as near infinite, and she describes herself as more powerful than God. In fact, she is so powerful that her brother couldn't defeat her without the archangels, and their combined power was barely enough to seal her away, by tricking her first. Even weakened after a combined attack from witches, demons, angels, and Lucifer, she managed to overpower and fatally wound God, while keeping Lucifer at bay. Among the powers she showed were:
  • Reality Warping - While she conversed with Dean, her smoke form was still expanding, causing immense winds. However, they were completely unaffected by them, indicating that she has tremendous control over the physical Universe. Her power was evident when she turned a water fountain into blood. She is able to destroy all of God's creation and even Magic itself. Prior to the creation of the current universe, she destroyed multiple worlds God created.
  • Conjuration (possibly) - She is said to be able to create a whole new reality in which everyone lives blissfully forever, but Lucifer disagrees.
  • Flight - The Darkness, while disembodied, can fly in a similar manner to demons and angels without a vessel.
  • Weather Manipulation - As The Darkness expanded on Earth, she caused powerful winds. She also created a deadly storm with her mind that burned people to charred skeletons.
  • Apporting - She was able to teleport Dean out of his car without a word. Later, she apported him from a city to the countryside and back. She was also able to apport her dying brother to her.
  • Telekinesis - In the form of Amara, the Darkness displayed telekinesis. She forced an angel to kill himself with his angel blade and even overpowered God.

  • Soul and Grace Consumption - After she was released, the Darkness started devouring human souls in order to heal and restore her former power. In her human form, she ate Deputy Jenna Nickerson's soul which made her grow into a little girl and later a preteen girl. She has since consumed many souls (including demon souls). It's revealed that she can also consume the grace of angels, as she consumed Ambriel's grace.
  • Corrupting Affect - The Darkness' presence is a corrupting force to whatever it comes in contact with. The Mark of Cain corrupted anyone who wore it, turning them into a killer. When released, those who came in contact with the pure form of the Darkness turned into a meaningless killer. Reaper Billie told Sam that he was "unclean in the biblical sense" from being infected by a Rabid. She can also speak to the Rabids, driving them insane. She often released a deadly fog which turned humans into Rabids and connected humans to her.
  • Empathy - The Darkness can feel and influence the emotions of humans.
  • Smiting - Just by raising her hand, the Darkness was able to kill an angel with a similar effect to an angel blade.
  • Molecular Combustion - With a wave of her hand, the Darkness caused an angel to explode into dust.
  • Power Negation - With a wave of her hand, Amara was able to negate Lucifer's hold over the Winchesters.
  • Torturing - She was able to torture Lucifer by pointing her hand at him, which caused him to extreme pain and exude light from his chest and eyes.
  • Sedation - With a wave of her hand, Amara was able to knock Lucifer out.
  • Mental Projection - Amara was able to project an image of herself and Lucifer into Dean's mind to pass a message to God and later to ask Dean to meet with her. She was also able to project a vision of herself in her grown form surrounded by her smoke form into Dean's mind to communicate with him after her release.
  • Implosion - After Metatron fails to harm her with an angel banishing sigil, Amara imploded him into nothingness by surrounding him with darkness.
  • Electrokinesis - She tortured Lucifer with powerful electrokinesis that burned his face.
  • Supernatural Concealment - While God could hide himself from Amara, she also was able to hide

  • Angelic Exorcism - Amara was able to pull Lucifer from Castiel's body. While Lucifer survived, the exorcism left him severely weakened.
  • Advanced Healing - After reconciling with God, Amara was able to heal the damage her nigh-omnipotent powers did to him, without any difficulty.
  • Resurrection - As a "thank you" for Dean helping her, Amara resurrected Mary Winchester. She was able to do this with no apparent effort despite Mary being dead for over thirty years and having left no body behind.
  • Super Strength - The Darkness was easily able to throw a grown man with enough force to kill him. The Darkness also blocked an attack from Castiel with ease and threw him several feet away with barely touching him.
  • Superhuman Endurance - She has displayed significant tolerance for extreme physical and psychological trauma. This was seen when, despite the combined massive attacks from Rowena, Demons, Angels and Lucifer, she was still able to move and walk up to God.
  • Regeneration - Amara has shown a healing factor. When she was wounded by a massive angelic smite, she absorbed an Angel's grace and took help from Rowena in order to restore her powers. However, after being fatally wounded by a massive angelic smite, full scale demonic attack, Crowley attacking, and Lucifer's Spear, she regenerated only minutes afterward.
  • Possession - After her release, The Darkness possessed a newborn baby, Amara.
  • Absorption - The Darkness is able to absorb energy attacks as seen in O Brother, Where Art Thou? and Hell's Angel. She was able to absorb the combined smiting of all angels, although it weakened her to a certain degree. The attack was supposed to destroy a large area instead it only formed a crater. Later, she absorbed an attack from Lucifer with the Horn of Joshua, this time without taking any injuries.
• Omnipresence (formerly) - The Darkness was once all there was. She announced that she will one day reestablish that state. When Sam was talking with Lucifer in Hell, he said that she was possibly "everywhere on Earth". Shortly after the Host of Heaven unleashed an immense blast on her, part of her essence was split from her main body and the whole area was clouded in darkness.
• Nigh-Omniscience - Although she is still learning about the Universe that God made while she was locked away, she was immediately able to speak the English language.
• Mandatory Existence - Amara's existence is necessary and provides balance to reality. As God put it, "Light needs Dark", and "Dark needs Light". If she were to be killed, reality itself would end. However, it was said that if both God and the Darkness were to die, a new balance would be established.

Weaknesses

Despite her immense power, even The Darkness has weaknesses and can be sealed away or even killed. However, it takes extreme levels of combined power, as even a Hand of God used by Lucifer, which is capable of hurting Archangels, caused her no harm when used alone. Castiel once described her as impossible to destroy. Her brother God is the only being powerful enough to kill Amara, though not on his own, but he chooses not to as he says that the Darkness (Amara) and the Light (God) must both exist for the Universe to maintain balance, if either God or The Darkness cease to exist, the other also ceases together with reality itself. Thus, God opted to seal her away.

Harming and Banishing

• Combined forces of powerful beings - The combined strength of God and the Archangels was strong enough to bind the Darkness and seal her with a lock, albeit barely. An attack by an army of demons, in smoke form, after an attack by witches and a mass-smite by angels somewhat weakened Amara.
• The Mark of Cain - The Mark of Cain was the "lock" to the prison that held the Darkness back. As long as someone bore the Mark, the Darkness would remain sealed. Amara has displayed a great fear of the mark of Cain, claiming that she would rather finally die than be imprisoned by that Mark.
• Diminishing Spell - This spell was able to harm and weaken her vessel to some degree.
• Lucifer's Spear - After a combined attack of angels, witches and demons it was capable of harming her vessel to the point of her admitting defeat.
• Archangels - While a single archangel cannot harm Amara, the four archangels together can weaken her enough for God to be able to trap her.

Killing

• God - God is able to kill the Darkness, though he needs help to weaken her first.
• Light (possibly) - According to God, a massive amount of light equivalent to 10,000 suns going supernova at once could potentially destroy the Darkness.
  • Soul Bomb (possibly) - A bomb made up of a couple hundred thousand souls could potentially emit enough light to destroy the Darkness.
• Mandatory Existence Compromised - If God were to be killed, the imbalance would result in the annihilation of everything that exists, including the Darkness.

Baby Amara

11.01 Out of the Darkness, Into the Fire

As the Darkness barreled towards and engulfed the Impala, Dean sees the flash of a woman in a black dress in front of him before he disappears, and Sam is knocked unconscious.

As black smoke swirls around them, Dean tells the woman he knows what she is from Death's description of her. Amara is surprised Dean knows about the Darkness, but claims to know nothing of Death. When Dean questions her why she hasn't hurt him, Amara tells him that they are bound and will always help each other, revealing that she bears the Mark of Cain. Dean comes to more than a mile away from the Impala.

While at the hospital tending to Deputy Jenna Nickerson wounds, Sam and Dean come across Mike Schneider who was infected by one of the rabids, Before he begins to lose control of himself, he gives his baby daughter to Jenna, and tells her to save her while goes to lock himself away a eventually die. While Sam acts as a distraction to the rabids, Dean and Jenna make their escape from the hospital, Mike confronts them having fully succumbed to the Darkness, and begins asking for the baby. He names his daughter Amara before he begins choking and eventually dies. At a gas station 40 miles outside of Superior, Jenna takes baby Amara to have her diaper changed. As she is dressing the baby back up she notices a tiny birth mark on body -- the Mark of Cain.

Young Amara

11.02 Form and Void

At Jenna's grandmother's house, Amara begins exhibiting new abilities such as telekinesis. When Jenna and her grandmother Barb witness this, Barb intends to call a priest as she believes the Devil is in Amara. Jenna, however calls Dean prompting him to turn around and race back to the house. When he arrives he is shocked to see Crowley drinking tea in priest garb with Barb, while the two step outside to discuss Crowley's intentions, Jenna checks in on Amara and has her soul consumed. While Dean and Crowley deal with the now soulless Jenna, and each other. Amara suddenly ages into a prepubescent child, and makes her escape from the house.

The next day as Amara is walking down the street, she is confronted by Crowley who offers her some "candy" in the form of a tied up family in the back of a van, accepting the offer with a smile.

Amara consumes a demon.

11.03 The Bad Seed

Under the watchful eye of Crowley, Amara begins educating herself on the current state of the universe, through videos like Hitler's Nuremberg rally speeches, and reading Dante's Inferno. Only asking that Crowley protects her from God, who she says tricked her into imprisonment. While looking at images of nature on her laptop, Amara steps away to a mirror where a dark cloud transforms her reflection into the adult version of herself. When Amara infers doubt after learning how much God did after He locked her up, her older self tells her that it was all because of his ego, and she needs to stay focused on her purpose. But that as she grows and becomes stronger, her true purpose will become more clear.

12-year-old Amara

The next day, as Amara is playing a game of scrabble, Crowley arrives with gifts -- a blood stained dress and a children's book, which Amara rejects stating she prefers the book her nanny gave her, Dante's Inferno. When Amara tells Crowley she is hungry, he attempts to placate her with cupcakes, instead Amara walks to her nanny and consumes the demon smoke, much to Crowley's surprise. Crowley continues feeding demons to Amara, Amara relates to Crowley that every soul she consumes, she feels how much emptiness there is. And when Crowley attempts to spin that into them working together to make the whole world evil, Amara turns it around on Crowley asking if that is really what he wants, planting a seed of doubt in the king. When Crowley tries to understand what Amara means by the "big picture," she changes the subject by telling Crowley she is hungry, for which Crowley has another demon minion dragged into the throne room for Amara to eat.

Having grown concerned that he may not be able to control Amara, Crowley orders her new nanny to cutback on the Amara's feedings under threat of eternal torture. Later when Crowley notices the dead meatsuit of the nanny outside Amara's door, he enters it to find a now 12-year-old Amara, who gleefully tells Crowley she's hungry. When Crowley attempts to dissuade from eating and have a talk with him, her demeanor becomes more aggressive as she states once again that she is hungry.

11.05 Thin Lizzie

While questioning Len, Dean finds a drawing of the Mark of Cain on his coffee table and asks where he saw it. After threatening to take him to the police station, Len admits he saw it on a girl standing outside the Lizzie Borden B&B when he was there taking spirit photography a few nights prior. Amara and Len begin talking about Lizzie Borden, when Len says he believed her to be innocent, Amara tells him she can tell Lizzie "hacked them," due to the look in her eyes. As Len prepares to leave, Amara stops him, grabs his face and consumes his soul.

Sydney captures Sam and Dean, telling them they are going to be an offering, which Dean quickly surmises is for Amara. Surprised that Dean knows about her, Sydney tells the brothers how she met her a few nights ago. After leaving a bar, a drunk Sydeny comes across Amara, who tells her not drive, because she could put her head through a window. Sydney believed Amara was dumped in the parking lot by her parents, while they got drunk, much like her parents did to her when she was Amara's age. But Amara corrects her and tells her she found herself in the parking lot all on her own, saying she likes "dark places." Confused, Sydney tries to get Amara to come back inside the bar with her, but Amara stops her, and tells her she will help her. Amara grabs Sydney's hands and almost instantly Sydney is filled with a feeling of complete bliss, and calls Amara an angel. Amara takes offense to being compared to an angel, which she sees as nothing more than "whiny winged suck-ups," with he demeanor having taken a more hostile turn, Amara grabs on to Sydney's face and consumes her soul, before leaving.

As Sam and Dean take there leave after discussing how they are going to find Amara. Amara steps out from behind some trees and remarks, "Bye, Dean. I'll see you soon."

11.06 Our Little World

Amara confronts a teenage girl by the name of Goldie Schmidtlapp, telling her she wants to be like her and proceeds to consume Goldie's soul. A now teenage Amara arrives back at Crowley's Lair to find Crowley waiting for her in her room. Angry that Amara has been going out and feeding, leaving him to clean up after her, Crowley grounds Amara. Amara in defiance attempts to leave her room, only to be telekinetically thrown across the room by Crowley, who reminds her that while she is strong, he is stronger, eliciting the response "For now" from Amara, before he takes his leave.

Teenage Amara

The next day Crowley pays a visit to Amara, who has been looking at cat memes on the internet. In an attempt to regain Amara's trust once again, Crowley offers her a snack, having his demon minions bring in a mail man for her to feed on, only for Amara to reject Crowley's offer. As Crowley is about to leave, he makes one last plea to Amara, follow his rules and slow down on the feedings to allow him to teach her what he knows and protect her until she doesn't need him anymore, a deal Amara accepts.

Later that night Sam and Dean decide to attempt to kill Amara, Dean is able to make it to Amara's room, which Amara was expecting. As Dean and Amara stand face to face, Dean apologizes to her for what he is about to do. Just then, Crowley makes himself known and telekinetically throws Dean into a mirror, before pinning him to a pillar. As he is about to kill Dean, Amara whacks Crowley in the back of the head with her laptop and telekinetically forces Ruby's knife from his hand before snapping his arm at the wrist and sending him flying into the wall. Confused as to why Amara attacked him, she lets him know that she doesn't need his protection, but will let him live nonetheless under the condition that he give Dean safe passage to the outside, Crowley agrees and Amara allows him to teleport away. Alone once again, Amara questions Dean about what is going on between them, telling him she believes a part of their connection is due to Dean being the first thing she saw upon being released, remarking how fascinated she is by it. She tells Dean soon she will be strong enough to do what she came there to do -- settle an old score. When Dean is unable to go through with killing her, she simply tells him "Told you", however at that moment Sam comes crashing through the door, forcing Amara to telekinetically send him flying into the hall. This act prompts Dean to advance on her, much to Amara's surprise, she sends Dean flying into the wall, sharing a look with him before she leaves and Dean passes out.

Amara is then seen free and walking among a busy street, letting her freedom sink in.

11.09 O Brother Where Art Thou?

Amara stands in a crowd of followers listening to their leader speaking about God watching them. Amara turns to the preacher, and questions him if he really thinks God is watching, because she doesn't believe so. The preacher tells Amara to beg for forgiveness or she will feel God's wrath. She challenges his assertions, first by changing the water in a fountain into blood, seeing that -- the preacher looks at Amara in awe and questions if she is God and if she is testing him. Amara laughs at his question, telling him she is not God and raises both her arms skyward, compelling lightning bolts. One by one the members of the crowd are struck down; with the final lightning bolt hitting the preacher. With the crowd now dead, the blood in the fountain turns back to water. The thunderstorm ends. Amara surveys her work.

Amara and Dean

Inside a church a priest sees Amara sitting in a pew and approaches her. She questions the priest if he is in charge, telling him she is looking for God. The priest assures her she is the right place, as the church is God's house and through prayer she can reach him. Amara kneels and begins praying to her brother, but quickly becomes frustrated that she is not getting any answer from Him. The priest assures her that God heard her prayer, telling her he knows this because God promised. Amara questions why people would believe in God, when they can only see him when they die, the priest tells her it's the nature of faith and hands her a Bible. Amara tries to tell the priest that the Bible is just a manipulation, telling him humans don't know what God is like at all. The priest tells her he does, that "God is the Light, and it is the Light that vanquishes the Darkness." The priest hands Amara the Bible and walks away, which she looks at with disgust. Sometime later, the bloody bodies of parishioners lay strewn in the aisle of the church as Amara consumes the soul of the priest, and sends him flying to the altar, cracking his skull and killing him. She question God why He isn't answering her, even after all his chosen were killed, stretching her arms out and looking above, screaming with tears in her eyes for God to show himself.

When Dean goes to investigate the massacre at the church, he gets a weird feeling that leads him to a park. There he finds Amara, she touches Dean on the arm and they are transported to a clearing. There Amara tries to tell Dean her purpose on Earth isn't what he thinks it is, she never wanted to hurt anyone and only attacked the people in the church to try and get God's attention. When Dean tells her whatever their issues are, it is between them and that Amara can't be killing people or taking their souls. Amara tries to comfort Dean by telling him that the souls she consumed aren't gone, they are with her, and in that way they will live forever. She tells Dean she doesn't blame the mistrust in his eyes, owing it to how God's propaganda has endured. Telling Dean, there could be a different way; no rules, no pain, no prayer, only bliss -- the feeling Dean has when he is around her for everyone. Telling Dean, she was the beginning and she will be the end. When Dean questions her about what would be next after she takes over everything, she tells him he knows all he needs to for now. Dean turns quickly and plunges a blade into Amara. The blade shatters, as it doesn’t penetrate her body, as the broken shards fall to the ground, Dean looks stunned. Amara tells him that was pointless, but understands, as he is a warrior and it is his nature to resist.

Amara waits for the forces of Heaven to attack.

Amara moves closer to Dean. She cups his face in her hands and attempts to consume Dean’s soul. A confused look dawns on her face, either she cannot consume Dean's soul, or she decides against it. She leans in closer and kisses Dean. He doesn’t resist, and then returns her kiss. Once Dean breaks away from her kiss, he questions her about it. Amara tells him it was, "The inevitable result of our first meeting. What you’ve been feeling since that moment. What we both felt. That we’re bonded. You’re the one who set me free." Dean tells her it was an accident, but Amara tells him it was destiny as he bore the Mark of Cain. Just then, three angels, wielding blades appear in the clearing. The head angel orders Amara to surrender to the judgement of Heaven or every angel in the skies will unleash their power in a single unified blow. The head angel strides forward and Amara holds up her hand, as if to ward him off. His eyes go white and his grace explodes from his body as he dies. The angel Daniel steps forward but stops, as if he’s run into an invisible wall. Amara then compels him to stab himself through his chin with his own angel blade, the third angel makes a move as if he is about to flee, but Amara swishes her hand and he explodes in a cloud of dust. A horrified Dean asks Amara what has she done, knowing that the angels will smite them. As lightning flashes overhead and thunder claps, Dean and Amara look skyward, as the clouds darken and swirl. Amara looks at Dean with concern, she flicks her hand and he disappears. Amara raises her arms to the sky as a blaze of holy light envelops her and the ground explodes.

11.10 The Devil in the Details

In the fallout of the angel smiting, Castiel and Ambriel are sent by Dean and Heaven, respectively, to search for any sign of Amara or her body. When Castiel arrives at ground zero, he only finds a large empty crater. When finds Ambriel, she tells him she has been searching for a while and hasn't found any sign of Amara, until Castiel points out it is the afternoon and it is completely dark. They continue their search together and when Ambriel splits away from Castiel, she comes across Amara's seemingly lifeless body laying on the ground. She walks up to it and touches it to see if Amara is still alive. Without warning, Amara's eyes open and she grabs Ambriel, who lets out a scream. When Castiel hears this, he rushes to her location to find Amara consuming Ambriel's grace and life force. Soon after, the dark skies dissipate as the surrounding Darkness returns to Amara's body. Amara acknowledges Castiel's presence and when Castiel brandishes his angel blade and tells her he is not afraid to die, she tells him how much he reeks of fear and self-loathing, when he attempts stab Amara, she easily stops him and sends him flying back into a tree. She approaches him questioning why God showed such special interest in him, Castiel tells her to "do it" and consume him, however Amara doesn't see the point to it, believing Castiel to be so beaten down. Instead Amara places her hand on his chest, and teleports him away. An act which appears to weaken her. When Castiel regroups with Crowley and Dean, he reveals Amara gave him a message, opening his shirt he reveals the words "I am coming" branded onto his chest.

11.13 Love Hurts

When Dean kisses Melissa Harper to pass her curse on to himself, he becomes the target of the qareen. Sam, Dean and Melissa head to the witch Sonja's salon to try and find a way to stop the qareen before it gets to Dean, while there Sam and Dean learn they must destroy its heart. While Sam searches upstairs for it, Dean remains in the basement. While looking for the heart, the qareen appears before Dean in the form of Amara. The qareen tells Dean it feels in the longing in his heart and feels the love he feels for Amara, commenting that it is also cloaked in shame. The qareen attempts to entice Dean, telling him to just "give in." Dean rejects the qareen's advances, telling it it's not the real Amara and attacks it. During the struggle, the qareen gets the upper hand and is about to rip Dean's heart out when it stops short and and screams in agony as it's disintegrates into a white light emanating from a hole in its chest after Sam destroys it's heart.

11.18 Hell's Angel

Still reeling from the after effects of the angel smiting, Amara was at some point found by Rowena, who went on to use her abilities with magic to heal Amara. Amara goes on to question why Rowena is helping despite not having the capacity for kindness. Rowena explains she wants revenge on Lucifer and to be by Amara's side when she remakes the world, as well be a confidant. Amara then decides to test out how well Rowena has healed het, she stands and screams out "Hear me!" Which sends a powerful force of Darkness towards Heaven, while also causing disturbances on Earth.

Sometime later, as Lucifer is prepared to give the killing blow to the Winchesters, Amara bursts through the door of the church. Telling the three she was tracking Rowena since she left her side. She warns Lucifer that he should have stayed safety locked away, however Lucifer, with the Horn of Joshua in hand absorbs its power directs it towards Amara, engulfing her in a bright white light. Once the power is depleted, everyone is in shock to see Amara has not been harmed. She telekinetically draws Lucifer to her, telling him they need to have a chat. As Dean screams out to Castiel, Amara looks to him with a look of concern and releases Dean and Sam from the binding Lucifer put on them before she disappears with her nephew.

At an abandoned factory, Lucifer attempts to talk Amara into an alliance, telling her they both have their problems with God and he knows His weak spots. Amara reminds him the last time she trusted him, Lucifer and her brother tricked and tried seal her away for eons. But admits that Lucifer can be of use to her. Telling him that as God's first and favorite son, he may be the one thing to finally draw him out of hiding. Telling Lucifer she will confront God and make Him acknowledge the wrongs he has done to her and that He will watch as creation is destroyed before He is swept away. Lucifer mocks Amara for thinking God will come back, but Amara tells him they will just have to wait and see before she begins to violently torture Lucifer.

11.21 All in the Family

As Amara continues her torture of Lucifer, she tells him to "end his suffering" by calling out to God and beg Him to save him. But only receives mockery from Lucifer. Amara feels that something has changed in the world, when Lucifer suggests God finally picked up on her latest slaughter. Amara tells Lucifer how she needed solitude, and when she complained to God about His creation, He along with Lucifer's help, locked her away for eons. When Lucifer tells her to stop complaining, an annoyed Amara knocks him unconscious with a wave of her hand.

As Dean is sitting in the Bunker looking for any signs of Amara, she suddenly appears before him. She tells Dena how much she has missed before telling him she knows God has resurfaced and only asks that if he comes across God to tell Him Lucifer and Castiel are not doing so well, and by ignoring her he is allowing their suffering as well as her attacks on the world at large to happen. Amara once again appears to Dean while he and Sam are interviewing Donatello Redfield, the only survivor of Amara's fog attack. She tells Dean events are moving faster than expected and needs to speak with him in person and alone before disappearing once again.

As a way to keep Amara distracted while Sam, Metatron and Donatello Redfield try to rescue Lucifer, Dean reaches out to Amara and the two meet in the woods. There Amara tells Dean how she missed him and the sensations he arouses in her, telling him she knows he feels the same and questioning what they are going to do about it. When Dean tells her there can be no "us" and that they should just walk away, Amara immediately questions why Dean isn't doing that. Amara asks Dean to reconsider her offer, telling how the world has not been kind to him and tells him to give up his smallness and humanity to become boundless within her, as the end of the world is inevitable. Dean admits he is drawn to her, and how the lack of control bothers him. Amara questions as to why he fights it as she can be the end of his struggle. As Amara approaches Dean, she finds his thoughts are somewhere else, realizing he has spoken with God, she feels Dean has betrayed her and leaves him. Arriving back at the silo, Amara only finds Metatron, who attacks her with a blood sigil that consumes her in a white light, but is not effective in damaging her. Metatron pleads with Amara to spare the universe, but is promptly killed. As Sam is making his escape with Lucifer, Amara appears in the middle of the road and stops the Impala in its tracks, telling them they aren't worth sparing. But before she can destroy them, Sam, Lucifer and Donatello are teleported away.

11.22 We Happy Few

At the home of Donatello Redfield, Amara assaults the new prophet. As Donatello feigns he doesn't know anything, Amara tells him that he knows where God is located. Donatello defiantly refuses to tell Amara God's location. She tells him he won't have to before clasping her hands on his face and consuming Donatello's soul, which allows her learn that her brother is in Kansas.

Amara is attacked by demons.

At the Men of Letters Bunker, the warding sigils that adorn the walls begin to fade away as the earth begins to shake. Amara teleports in, appearing on top of the table in the command center, and angrily kicks Chuck's "World's Greatest Dad" mug to the ground. As Amara explores the Bunker, she comes to Dean's bedroom, entering it she finds a framed photo of a young Dean and Mary and looks at it fondly. As she places the photo down, she is met by an astral projection of Rowena, who communicates to Amara that she is with God as they speak. As Rowena steps outside of the abandoned power plant, Amara appears out of nowhere. Amara reveals that she knew Rowena's betrayal was a trap the moment she made contact with her, but doesn't care as all she has wanted was a face to face with her brother. Amara makes a veiled threat about how she can repay Rowena, which prompts her to attack Amara with a spell. The spell has no effect on Amara, who tells Rowena that it tickled, and mocks Rowena for thinking the power of one witch could hurt her. Rowena retorts, she isn't one witch and soon attacks again, this time with the pooled power of Clea and three other witches, which sends Amara to the ground. Amara soon stands up and deflects the magic back at Rowena, knocking her down and sending blow back to Clea and the other witches, killing them. As Amara approaches the prone Rowena, the second attack wave begins, as the angels in Heaven fire a blast of energy, sending Amara to her knees. Allowing for the third wave, demons, to attack. As pillars of demon smoke swirl around Amara, lifting her off the ground, Amara desperately attempts to fight back. She is then thrown threw the air by Crowley, who smokes out of his meatsuit and joins the assault.

Weakened and damaged, Amara bursts through the doors of the power plant, telling her brother how he has cheated again. Before she can finish what she wants to say, she is stabbed in the back with a spear by Lucifer. As Lucifer is about to deliver a possibly killing blow, Chuck stops him. With Amara, prone on her hands and knees, Chuck apologizes to her for everything that has happened. She mocks His apology and asks what her crime was that caused him to lock her away for millions of years. When Chuck tells her the universe needed to be created, she doesn't believe Him. Telling Him He couldn't stand that they were equals, that He needed to be bigger and it was his ego that lead him to create lesser beings. As Amara stands, Chuck agrees with what she says, but adds that creation is bigger than He is, and was always there waiting to be born. Chuck tells Amara, he knows she has seen and felt the value of creation since being released, looking to Dean as he tells her. She tells Chuck that things "didn't have to be like this" and that she loved Him. And with a sigh, Amara admits defeat asking Chuck to kill her. Chuck apologizes as the Mark begins being transferred to Sam, Amara pleads with Chuck not to do it, but He only continues apologizing. Amara's survival instincts suddenly kick in, and she grabs Chuck by the throat telling Him "not ever again" as she telekinetically raises him in the air, stopping the transfer. Lucifer charges Amara, but is easily swiped away, and ripped out of his vessel and destroyed. As Dean attempts to stop Amara, she sends him flying back. With Chuck struggling in the air, Amara questions that if He won't change, why should she. Pillars of Darkness then come from Amara's body like tentacles and begin piercing Chuck, causing Him to become engulfed in white light before dropping to the ground. As Dean questions what Amara has done, Sam believes she has killed God. Amara corrects Sam and tells him that she didn't kill Him, but that He is dying. That he will dim and fade away into nothing, but not before He watches His creation turn to ash, and welcomes the Winchesters to the end before she disappears.

Amara heals Chuck.

11.23 Alpha and Omega

With Chuck slowly dying, Amara retreats to a park to reflect on what she has done. Touching a bed of roses as she walks, she looks up and notices the sun is dying before seeing the flowers she just touched have died, much to her shock.

As Amara sits at a bench staring blankly when she is joined by an elderly woman, who is feeding the pigeons. The woman compliments Amara's dress and asks Amara if she wants to feed the pigeons too, Amara, concerned what her touch may do to the old woman or pigeons declines. As the old woman continues feeding them telling Amara how she has been feeding them for 20 years and are almost like family to her. She tells Amara of her husbands death and how her son wants to send her to a retirement community, remarking where they send old folks to die. Amara questions if she hates her son, the woman says sometimes, but tells Amara with family even when you hate them, you still love them. Which appears to have a profound effect on Amara.

God and Amara stand reunited.

With Dean now a walking bomb, Chuck zaps him to Amara's location. She questions how Dean found her, only to have tell her he is there to give her what she wants, him. Surprised, Amara questions his change of heart. As Dean approaches, he tells if being a part of her will take away the pain of his friends, family and the world dying away, he is willing to join her. However, Amara is able to sense the power radiating from him and questions why he thinks now he would be able to hurt her. Dean tells her he has no choice, especially with what she is doing to the sun. Amara corrects him and tells Dean the sun dying is not her, but rather due to God's impending death tipping the cosmic balance scales. And that when the scales tip away from the light, everything in the universe will cease to exist, including herself. As Amara reiterates God's betrayal of her, and how he sent Dean to execute her. Dean tells her God doesn't want her dead or any of this. When Dean questions if this is what she wanted, Amara tells she only wished to hurt God, not kill him. Dean proceeds to make an impassioned speech to Amara about revenge not being satisfying in the end and how family, no matter how bad it gets, will always be there for you, telling her all she ever wanted was her brother. As Amara scoffs and tells Dean to "just stop," Dean continues telling her how she really doesn't want to be alone, and is probably why she wanted him, she was looking to fill the void left after God betrayed her. Finally asking her to put aside the rage and hate and tell him what she really wants.

The Darkness and the Light ascend to the Heavens together.

Back at the Lazy Shag bar, as Sam goes to get Chuck a glass of water, he is suddenly teleported to the park with Amara and Dean. When he questions why she brought him there, Amara begins to tell him of how in the beginning it was only them, and the love they shared for each other. And telling him of the jealousy and hate she had when He went on to create life, and His need for something besides her. Telling him of how all she thought about since being locked away was to make Him suffer, but found that her revenge did not make her happy and has come to realize that what He has created is truly beautiful. Telling Him she knows things can't go back to how they were, but wishes to just be a family again, a sentiment Chuck wishes for too. As Amara grabs His hand, light begins to emanate and the sun begins to shine brighter. As Amara returns Chuck to his full power, Chuck tells Dean that He and Amara are going to go away for a while, but before they leave he removes the souls from Dean's body and assures Dean the Earth will be fine as long as Sam and Dean are in it. Before they depart, Amara cryptically tells Dean that since he gave her what she needed most, she wanted to do the same for him before she fades away into black smoke, followed by Chuck, fades into white and the two ascend the Heavens and disappear.
