The title of the episode is based on the 2007 movie There Will Be Blood.

Guy Fieri is a chef who is well known for his shows on The Food Network. He is also a collector of classic cars including a number of late 60s Chevys.
Dick: You know I checked Kevin. Number one in your class, winner of the Chad Kennedy Top Young Scientist prize. All that on top of being keeper of the Word - you're a clever young man.
Tweeting during the episode, director Guy Bee said that Chad Kennedy was a reference to a Warner Bros. executive of the same name who is a big fan of the show.

Anna Nicole Smith was a model and actress who died at the age of 40 in 2007. She appeared in Playboy in 1992 and was the 1993 Playmate of the year. In 1992 Dean was 13 and Sam was 9.
Dean: Three weeks ago you were saying this could work, and now you want to go Kevorkian on his ass.
Dean is referring to Jack Kevorkin , a right-to-die activist who has assisted people in committing suicide.
Dean: What about Paula Deen?
Paula Deen is a chef and TV personality.
When Sam is looking for a lever to open the room where Emily is kept, he picks up a book titled "To Serve Man". This is a reference to a famous episode of The Twilight Zone of the same name. In the episode, aliens make contact with Earth. They seem to have benign intentions, reinforced by the title of a book they leave behind which translates as "To Serve Man". It is only at the end of the episode that the book is revealed to be - a cookbook!

The Kardashians are a family made famous through the reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Stockholm Syndrome is a condition that can arise where a person is held against their will, but they develop a sympathetic bond with their captor.
Dean: I think anyway you slice it we've got Pac Man and True Blood in the same room.
Pac man (referring to the leviathan Edgar) was the little munchy creature in the classic arcade game. True Blood refers to the vampire series on HBO based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels.

When Sam is researching SucroCorp online line, he shows Dean an article written by "Jenny Klein"staff reporter. Jenny Klein is a writer on Supernatural.
The man Sam and Dean take blood from is wearing a Plucky Pennywhistle t-shirt from the food chain that featured in 7.14 Plucky Pennywhistle's Magical Menagerie and sitting on a bench advertising Biggerson's Restaurant.
In the Alpha Vampire's mansion, at the entrance to the dining room can be seen the painting St Michael slaying the dragon by Josse Lieferinxe which was also seen in the Angel's Green Room in 4.22 Lucifer Rising.
In this episode Dean is wearing a new leather jacket. For the first five seasons Dean wore a distinctive leather jacket which originally belonged to his father. It was last seen folded in a box in 6.01 Exile On Main St.. In reality, the jacket was stolen when it was flown to L.A. for a Season 6 promotional photoshoot.
