Dean insists that anything supernatural should be killed, while Sam argues their mission is to stop evil. The argument ends when Dean punches Sam after he accuses Dean of using Gordon as replacement for their father.

They boys track down the vampire homestead where Gordon is torturing Lenore. Gordon grabs Sam and cuts him, taunting Lenore with his blood. When Lenore shows that she is capable of fighting her vampiric urges, Dean turns on Gordon, allowing Sam to rescue Lenore.

The following terms appeared in the Pad of Definitions for 1.20 Dead Man's Blood (episode):

References

Screencap from Bloodlust of "J. Manners"'s nametag.
  • The morgue attendant's name tag says "J.Manners". This is a shoutout to series producer Kim Manners. Arguably the exchange between him and Dean is another reference - Dean says "John...?" and the attendant replies, "It's Jeff." Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays John Winchester.
  • During Dean and Sam's banter over the decapitated corpse (including the "Put the lotion in the basket!" line) they are talking about Silence of the Lambs
  • Dean uses the phrase "sleep all day, party all night," which is part of the tag line for The Lost Boys.
  • Gordon calls Sam "Chachi," referring to Scott Baio’s character on Happy Days.
  • When Ellen speaks to Sam later in the episode, she also references Silence of the Lambs - when she says "Yeah, and Hannibal Lecter's a good psychiatrist."
  • Sam and Dean masquerade as journalists from Weekly World News, a tabloid of alleged supernatural occurences.

Fanservice

  • Lingering shots of the Metallicar, Dean's affectionate addressing of it
  • Sam saying "He[Dean]'s the only one who gets to call me that" when Gordon calls him 'Sammy'.
  • Throwaway reference to Chupacabras, creatures that have been frequently used in SPN Fanfiction
