WinchestMidwest, commonly known as WinMid, is an annual Supernatural fan-run convention held in Chicago, IL which first took place in June of 2007. The most recent Con was in October 2015.

WinMid started as an idea one cold Midwest February afternoon when Jared Padalecki cancelled his appearance at Fangoria, an annual horror movie convention. In his absence, the Supernatural faithful gathered anyway; meeting online friends in the flesh, making new ones, and generally having a wonderful time talking about the show they all loved. From the organizers:

WinchestMidwest is for every fan of the show. We want everyone to feel like that have something to both give and take - that's why our topics include standard panels like fanfic and group discussion, but also challenge you to learn new things, like graphics or fanvids. We want to celebrate as much of fandom as we can and include as many people as we can.

The third WinchestMidwest took place from July 10th - 12th in Chicago, Illinois with about 40 fans attending. The following was the scheduled program of panels and events:


Friday July 10th

  • 5:00pm – 6:00 pm: Registration and Mingling
  • 6:00pm – 7:00pm: PANEL: The Hero's Journey - How Sam and Dean Have Changed Since S1
  • 7:00pm – 11:30pm DOUBLE FEATURE: My Bloody Valentine: 3D starring Jensen Ackles, Friday the 13th starring Jared Padalecki


Saturday July 11th

  • 9:00am – 10:00am PANEL: Season Five: The Endgame of Supernatural
  • 10:05am – 11:00am PANEL: What We Really Need Is Some Music: The Use of Classic Rock on the Show
  • 11:05am – 12:00pm PANEL: Fanfic Writing Discussion: Writing for Supernatural: Classic Cars, Character Development & Creepy Crawlies
  • 12:00pm – 1:30pm LUNCH BREAK
  • 1:30pm – 2:30pm PANEL: From Script to Screen - A Comparison of How a Scene Looks On The Script Page Versus What Shows Up On Our TVs
  • 2:35pm – 4:30pm GUEST SPEAKERS – Meet the Real Life Winchesters. Local TAPS group discusses ghost hunting in the real world.
  • 4:30pm – 5:30pm TAKE A RIDE IN AN 1967 IMPALA
  • 5:30pm – 6:30pm PLASTIC!WINCHESTER THEATER – Meet the cast, take your own photos and watch a con exclusive episode.
  • 6:30pm – 8:30pm DINNER BREAK
  • 8:30pm – 9:30pm PANEL: Beta Can You Hear Me? Building a Better Story Through Criticism
  • 9:35pm – 10:00pm KIM MANNERS TRIBUTE VID and DISCUSSION
  • 10:pm - 12:00pm GHOST HUNTING WITH WEIRD CHICAGO


Sunday July 12th

  • 9:00am – 10:00am PANEL: Demons, Angels and the Gray Space In Between
  • 10:05am – 11:00am WRITER’S CHALLENGE – Timed drabble writing from specific prompts with constructive criticism
  • 11:05am – 12:00pm PANEL - That Was Graph-tastic! Creating Icons, Banners, and Header
  • 12:00pm – 1:30pm LUNCH BREAK
  • 1:30pm – 2:30pm PANEL – Character alignment - Discussion on how the Winchesters Tow the Moral and Ethical line
  • 2:05pm – 3:00pm OPEN DISCUSSION – The Supernatural Fandom. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
  • 3:05pm – 3:30pm Thank you and Goodbye’s
