July 16: Supernatural magazine #5. Jared on trying to get Jensen to 'break' while filming.

Jared admits it's gotten harder over time: "After so many episodes together, I can’t make faces or moon him because he’ll just carry right on…"

July 20: Jim Beaver reports on his MySpace: "Jim is home from work at 3:44 a.m. (of course, we hoisted a few for Jared's birthday, so there's that)"

July 26-27: Comic Con 2008

  • Kripke, Sera Gamble, and Ben Edlund joined Jared and Jensen with a surprise appearance from the Ghostfacers.
  • The session includes a screening of the first five minutes of the S4 pilot and the gag reel. Not surprisingly they make their way to the 'net.
  • Both Jensen and Jared would love to do a western-themed episode, though Jared mentioned that he couldn't see the boys in spurs and cowboy hats. "Assless chaps?" Kripke asked. "Yes, please," Jensen responded.
  • Kripke coins the phrase "necro-riffic" - in relation to fans being fond of Dean's bodily fluids even if they were fluids oozing from a decomposing corpse.

August Jared gets a rare week off - which he spends in Hawaii - during the filming of 4.03 In the Beginning.

Misha later revealed:

Jared had most of the episode off, he took a quick trip over to Hawaii leaving Jensen to do the bulk of the work. The camera operator would tape postcards from Hawaii on the front of the camera as Jensen was doing his shots to rib him a bit. There was a lot of ribbing about how he was there sweating it out on the stage while Jared was over in Hawaii cooling his feet.

August 18: Jensen along with Danneel and Steve Carlson, is photographed at Mike Johns birthday party in LA.

August 20:
We get our first glimpse of the trailer for The Christmas Cottage and more pics of Jared looking adorable in chunky handknits.

August 24: Gag Reel.
The Gag Reel from the Season 3 DVDs appears online with lots of boy hugging and "I love you" and funnies and more pop culture references than ...well an episode of Supernatural. Can you pick 'em?

  • Dean: We open the doors. We let 'em in. And then we fight like men in tights. - from Robin Hood: Men in Tights.
  • "I miss your musk" - quote from the movie Anchorman.
  • Jared Zoolander
  • Dramatic Ackles based on the dramatic prairie dog.
  • Do Me! {from Bell Bov Devoe's song - and dance moves!)
  • Borat. "I Like"
  • and the randomness of Freddie Prinze Jr.(who shares an agent with Jared)
Soapboxderby.jpg

September 7: Red Bull Soap Box Derby On 7 September, 2008, the Red Bull Soap Box Derby was held in Vancouver. As part of the event there were celebrity races. Jared and Jensen, in matching, named hockey jerseys, were among the competitors. For the record - Jared beat Jensen. He donated his $1000 prize to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and Jensen donated his $500 to Doctors Without Borders.

September 10: Debbie from Buddy TV visited the set during the filming of "Yellow Fever". In the intro post before any interviews were posted she mentioned:

Jared and Jensen live together and carpool to work every day. They like to rib each other about who is lazier than whom in the morning, and it's very cute.

The video interviews with each of the boys were priceless, with of teasing and Jared claiming Jensen had a crush on him.

When told Jensen wants to know why he sweats so much:

Jared: Why I sweat so much? Um, knowing that he's always--his eyes are always on me. Desperately wanting, you ever heard that Better Than Ezra song, Desperately Wanting? He--that crush on me, it makes me kind of awkward. He's always crying, and so I always feel like I should help him out, and I get nervous, you know, 'cause I'm like, I wanna do something for him, but I don't wanna give him the wrong idea, and just that sort of crazy thought process in my head makes me sweat.

On getting ready in the morning:

Jared: Oh, really, oh, is that what he was saying, that I take a long time getting ready. Uh, that's because in the morning, I wake up, and I work out, and I, I, uh, lift weights in my gym, and then I run, I'll run my dogs, or I'll run on my treadmill or something. And he basically rolls his little pretty ass out of bed and gets in the shower and primps, and he's ready to go. He's in his mirror about forty minutes before pickup time, making sure he looks good, while I'm pounding the pavement, trying to work out. "Take a long time getting ready," I'm gonna whup his ass.

September 15: It's all about the Beaver.
From an interview with Jim:

“Jared Padalecki is the world’s tallest rascal. He’s irreverent, full of jokes, full of fun and really, really good at what he does.”

“Jensen’s not as wild as Jared, but he’s just as funny and he’s really deeply devoted to what he does for a living. He’s a sweet guy, which is something coming from a guy like me.”

26 September: The Beast With Two Backs
The last issue of Supernatural "Rising Son", a six page comic by Eric Kripke was included by "The Beast with two backs". It starred the Ghostfacer, and a ridiculously handsome monster that managed to imply Kripke supported both Wincest and J2, as well as taking the piss out of both the Show and the fans!
September 26-28: EyeCon September 2008

  • Jim Beaver continues the transition by wearing a Mythbusters "I do all my own stunts" t-shirt
  • Nicki Aycox reported that Jensen absolutely refused to 'hit' Meg in that original Devil's Trap exorcism. Until Meg and Kim convinced him, he outright didn't find it acceptable to even fake hitting a girl. Nicki's words were 'Dude, she's talking about your momma and she's a DEMON, of COURSE you're gonna hit her! (from ze_pink_lady
  • Jared talked about his new housemate (Video here):
Just to squash any of your fantasies...he lives downstairs, I live up. Yeah, it worked out kinda nice because I bought a house last year you know, and uhm he was living in a place he was renting with his buddy and he got kicked out and so I said c'mon, stay over here. So uh...we dance and cook and clean. We don't, we watch football and go to sleep basically. Some nights it'll be nice we have a little bit of extra lay over. Lay over? Welcome to my world. Uhm a little extra uh...turn around you know, so we'll hang out or play guitar or you know watch...Who does the cooking and the cleaning? Clif. Our bodyguard! There, I can blame him. He actually does, he'll bring over stuff and like grill, he has a nice little apron. Uh I think we both, I think we both clean. Luckily hes a pretty clean guy. We've always got along, you know we got along from day one so I think we realized, listen we're spending so much time together. Uhm and it's nice because his feelings aren't hurt if I walk in and go like "Dude, get out of here i'm going to sleep." and if he walks..if we walk in and hes like "Dude, I gotta crash." I'm like cool and you know, i'll play nintendo by myself or something...with two tears. But uh, thank you, thank you i'd love that. But it's been nice, it's been nice because we work so hard and we get a chance to work on our stuff and so, it's nice. I'm saying with 7 and a half episodes I do, when I see y'all guys next time I might be like "I'ma buy him his own house" - i'm just kidding. "Get him away from me!"
EyeCon1587.png
First of all, Jared bought a house in Vancouver last year because he is hardly ever in LA; it also would be better for his dogs. In the meantime, Jensen was renting from a friend of his that he met while on Dark Angel. The market in Vancouver was going up and the friend decided to sell the house. After it sold, Jensen didn't really have time to find a place, so Jared told him to move in with him. Jensen was reluctant at first. Jared said that Jensen said he didn't want to crash his place (I probably don't know the phrasing, but I took it to mean he didn't want to butt in). So, Jared offered to let him store his stuff while they took off for the summer. Then, the guys were filming their movies and never got around to finding a place. When Supernatural started filming again, they still didn't have enough time to find a place, so Jensen was staying there on an air mattress. Eventually Jared got him to unpack some stuff, put up a bed, and it has been working out well ever since. They each have their own floor and there are some common areas. Jared said it has been about 7 weeks and everything is working out fine. Nobody gets insulted if one or the other just wants to crash and sometimes they do get together and barbecue or play guitar...

October 4:
In another Buddy TV interview Jared apparently likes Jensen. A lot.

It's something that comes naturally. Jensen's got a big old crush on me, and I just sort of try and play of it. I've told him many times nothings going to happen, I'm not like that, but I play of it. No we're pretty laid back guys, were both from Texas, and sort of like to get our work done and have a good time. Not really like drama kings. I've worked with guys who need some sort of conflict, and a like "did you here what blah blah said aboiut blah blah?" And I'm like c'mon just relax, you work 14 hour days anyways, its not worth getting bent up about stupid things. It came pretty naturally, we're pretty similar. We actually live together right now, so even at night, we get home from set, and we've seen each other for 12 hours, and we're like 'Wanna play guitar? Cool" you know, until we go to sleep or something.

October 4 From an actor's blog who later went onto play the Teddy Bear in 4.08 Wishful Thinking:

I do a very clever thing when scoping celebs at the bar, which is I pretend I'm looking for someone else so I don't look too obvious. Oh yeah, I'm smooth. Sure enough there was Sam and Dean Winchester, the guys I play almost every time I read on the North Shore. So, I see 'em, and think "cool, I've seen 'em," and go on about my business (because it is "my business") when I later get assigned to bathroom-checking duty.

So I'm wiping up the counter that seems to never be dry, when lo and behold the Winchester boys bust in, laughing and cavorting, as often brothers do.

October 12 Behind the scenes
From an older interview, where Jared talked about filming scenes in 4.09 I Know What You Did Last Summer and 4.10 Heaven and Hell.

We actually did something really cool two nights ago. [Jensen Ackles] and I did the biggest stunt we've ever done - they built on [a soundstage] a two-story church and we were shooting this scene on the second floor and there were these big bay windows [filled with] candy glass. Jensen and I actually ran and jumped through the windows and smashed them and landed on a pad and it was like a twelve-foot drop. So before [it's] like your heart's beating and you're going, "I'm cool...no, no, no, I'm not scared. Whatever." And then it's time to do it. [Right] before, Jensen and I just looked at each other and we were like, [motions bumping fists] "Kick ass" and we went..

You and Jensen are really close so is it that much harder to do those scenes where basically you have to watch Dean get torn apart and whatnot?

Yeah, we did that yesterday. He sort of talks about his time in Hell and he knocked it out of the park. He did an amazing job, he's a fantastic actor and always impresses me. Just watching him do it - it was his coverage I didn't even have a camera on me - I was just watching him and I started to like, tears were rolling down my cheek and I was going, [fake sniffles and eye wiping] Uh...it's dusty...something flew in my eye.

Behind the scenes with wee Sam and Dean on 3.08 A Very Supernatural Christmas

October 28: Je t'aime.
Jensen talks to a French magazine about life with Padalecki:

Yes, together, but with the purest of intentions , even if he's constantly harrassing me for sexual favors." (laughs)

As a matter of fact, he bought this house last year and I was living together with a friend of mine in my apartment. Then, my friend moved back to L.A. Jared, then asked me to move in with him in that gigantic house of his. I think he was feeling a little lonely with just his dogs to keep him company. So, that’s how we became the next housemates of Jared's place. It made a lot of sense, since we already spent a lot of time with each other while we’re on set. We’re pretty much like brothers and we’re the best of friends. We hardly ever argue at all.

October 19: Surprise JDM!!
At Spike TVs Scream Awards, Jared talks about Supernatural and gropes his other boyfriend - JDM

October 23: Eye of the Ackles. At the end of 4.06 Yellow Fever there was a "special presentation " - Jensen miming "Eye of the Tiger" in an unrehearsed outtake. The man sure can play ass guitar!

October 25: Mean to Dean Kripke releases a statement following the airing of 4.06 Yellow Fever - the only time (as of August 09) that Eric Kripke has ever responded to fan reaction to an episode. Kripke was concerned that in watching the episode, fans had got caught up in whether Dean had caught the Ghost Sickness because he was "dick" and missed the foreshadowing of his darker secret relating to what he did in Hell.

November 3: New Promo pics.

November 9: Ted Raimi who guest starred in 4.08 Wishful Thinking fanboys the show:

Supernatural is -- my girlfriend turned me on to that, it's one of my all-time favorite shows. I actually gave Eric Kripke, the producer, a call and said, "Please, please, put me on your show!" [laughs] That's the only show I've ever done where I was running a fine line between being a fanboy and an actor. I was blown away! I was like, "Geez, I'm in the Chevy! I'm in the Chevy!!"

November 14: Salute to Supernatural Chicago 2008
The boys do breakfast and Jensen talks about who takes longer to get ready in the morning:

Who takes longer to get ready in the morning? Jared, of course, was the undisputed answer and Jensen joked that he was going to write a book called Waiting for Jared. When prompted Jensen agrees that Jared is the girl in their relationship.

This joke resurfaced later when Jared was trying to get shuffled off the stage for Jensen's alone time and he sort of refused to go, dancing on stage and doing a fake strip tease and generally just annoying the crap out of Jensen.

November 20 The last episode for the year, 4.10 Heaven and Hell airs.

Jared and Jensen in Chicago

November 24: In an interview about Christmas Cottage and F13th, Jared on working with Jensen, and the bond with the whole crew:

Yeah, if we didn’t bond I think the show would have been canceled long ago. Um but we do bond and we have a great time and we have a tough schedule because it’s only of us. We’re working insane hours but on the flip side we watch out for each other and we’re there for each other and you know, we’re there like if he’s having a tough day I’ll kick him in the ass and tell him to bring it up and if I’m having a tough day he’ll you know slap me in the face and tell me to bring it up. It’s kinda nice, we’re both Texas boys that kind of are low key and like to get our work done and we like to have a good time.

We just have a great crew, I mean our crew who works on the show most of them I’d say over 90% of them have been with us since season one. A lot of them have actually taken pay cuts to keep working on the show, because the show hasn’t been getting a lot of support from whoever are the powers that be and the American dollar took a big hit and so we kinda, not only did we not get a raise in the show we kind of effectively got our budget cut like 200 thousand dollars. So they had to cut a lot of salaries.
