A Pagan, in addition to the above definition, is also a follower of any modern Earth-based religion. A good example would be a religion such as Wicca, a tradition formally founded in England in the 1950s by Gerald Gardner, (which was based on older rural English traditions), or Neo-Druidism, consisting of paths that have been reconstructed carefully from ancient practices, yet are tailored to the modern-day practitioner and are centred around a reverence for the Earth and a stewardship of the Earth and her creatures.
