11.19 The Chitters
When Sam and Dean visit Gunnison, Colorado to investigate reports of a girl going missing and turning into a "green-eyed mutant", they head straight for the sheriff's office in town. There, they're met by Sheriff Tyson who tells them that 6 people have gone missing in the last 48 hours. Sam asks for information on Libby Strauss, and Sheriff Tyson explains that Libby was visiting from Tuscon, Arizona and was the first reported missing—the rest of the missing being locals. Sam further asks if there were any witnesses, and Sheriff Tyson cynically relays that the only eyewitness to Libby's disappearance is her friend, Cori. Tyson expresses distrust in Cori's story since the pair had been on a cannabis tasting tour, and Cori had been high when questioned. Sam asks if anything like the disappearances recently had ever happened in town before. Sheriff Tyson goes on to tell them that every 27 years, there seems to be unexplained spates of disappearances in town. When Sam asks how far back these clockwork disappearances go, Tyson explains that the town was only founded in the 1950s when coal was discovered in the area, and that she's only been here 2 years herself. When questioned on what the general consensus amongst the townsfolk is for the explanation behind the disappearances, Tyson says the residents in the town just assume people are leaving when they get bored of small-town life rather than going missing. However, she adds that old-timers have their own theories, including that the town is buried on an Indian burial ground, or that the Forest Folk are angry that the settlers stole their coal. When Dean tries to get more information about the historical disappearances, Sheriff Tyson simply tells him that she's trying to focus on the current disappearances, but that they are welcome to look at the files and talk to the witness, effectively dismissing them.
When a young couple are attacked by a similar-sounding being with green eyes, Sam and Dean interview the girl that survived. Sheriff Tyson sits in on the interview. The girl recounts her experience, telling Sam, Dean, and Sheriff Tyson that one of the beings that attacked them was Coach Hollister. Tyson asks if she means Grant Hollister, another local, and the girl affirms this, telling the sheriff that he was the one who killed her boyfriend. Sam asks the girl who else she recognized, and the girl answers that the couple who were copulating wildly were one of the Deaver brothers and Mrs. Limoski. Sheriff Tyson seems perturbed by this, and asks if the girl is sure, the girl answers with a nod. Dean goes on to ask whether the situation looked "orgy-like", to which the girl responds that she's "never seen an orgy". With that, Sheriff Tyson abruptly ends the interview and leads Sam and Dean out of the room. Sheriff Tyson tells them that the girl's boyfriend is dead, and the rest of the people the girl has mentioned are missing. Dean points out that they're not missing anymore, just having crazed public sex with each other. This makes the sheriff uncomfortable, as she tells them that the Deaver brother—Rob—is a firefighter and Mrs. Limoski is a librarian. She expresses her discomfort that she's friends with the firefighter's pregnant wife. Confused, she questions what's going on, wondering if it's aliens, or "Spanish Fly gone bad." After Dean tells her that this situation is new to them too, Sheriff Tyson excuses herself to go update the families.
