On June 6, Amazon Studios announced that Jensen has been cast to star in “Countdown,” a new, 13-episode Prime Video series created by Derek Haas and produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
From the official press release:
Countdown starts following a suspicious murder in broad daylight, which leads to LAPD officer Mark Meachum (Jensen Ackles) being recruited to join a secret task force of undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement to investigate. But as the truth of a more sinister plot comes into focus, the team must overcome their conflicting personal agendas to unite and save a city of millions.
Derek Haas is a writer of film, (including 2Fast2Furious and 3:10 to Yuma), TV (the "Chicago" franchise and FBI: International) and novels.
At Creation Orlando 2024 , Jensen confirmed the show will be released in June 2025.

- Mark Meachum (Jensen Ackles) is an LAPD officer.
- Amber Oliveras (Jessica Comacho): a Special DEA agent also working on the secret taskforce with Jensen's Mark Meachum. Her character is described as “14 years on the job. Undercover in multiple operations. She’s a badass who won’t take crap from anyone. She’s intrigued by this new ops team and though she seems to do well enough on her own, it’ll be a nice change of pace working with others.”
- Nathan Blythe (Eric Danes) plays Special Agent in Charge and a veteran with the Bureau for 22 years.
- "Military cut, trim, fit, and packing an imposing glare, he's seen a lot in his days on the job, and he has a passion for fighting for justice. Though this isn't his first task force he's led, this one is different. He had already been looking into a potential deal going on with a foreign player trying to buy off DHS officers but was denied when he tried to open an investigation. After Darden's death, he took matters into his own hands and started going around certain people and keeping things tightly locked, including this opps team. He carefully assembled and handpicked everyone on it and doesn't hesitate to light a fire under them. He wants this solved by any means necessary."
- plays Evan Shepherd (Violett Beane) a tech-savvy recent graduate of the FBI Academy who’s eager to learn how to operate inside the task force.
- Lucas Finau (Uli Latukefu) is a veteran of the LAPD’s Gangs and Narcotics division.
- Keyonte Bell (Elliot Knight) is a third-generation FBI agent who is well-versed in terrorist threats.

- At Creation Chicago 2024, @Dean_D_Monic who cosplays as Jensen and his characters at conventions, appeared as Mark Meachum, impressing Jensen as the show had only been filming for a few weeks.
