The only thing worse than how it starts for a hunter is how it ends.

– Carlos Cervantez, 1.01 Pilot (The Winchesters)

History

Carlos Cervantez is a hunter and friend of Mary Campbell. Carlos became a hunter after killing all but two of the ghouls that killed his family. Carlos lived life off the grid in his van, but upon getting arrested in the '60s Carlos was given the option of prison or enlistment. Not wanting to lose his freedom, Carlos enlisted and became a Navy medic for Task Force 116, where he spent the Vietnam War patrolling the Mekong Delta and surveilling the coast.

Prior to hunting, Carlos was a musician under the name “Rivers Gemini” with his friend Jericho as “Rivers Gemini and The Jericho Kid.”

Carlos is non-binary[1] and bisexual. He once had a girlfriend called Beth, whom he was in an on-again, off-again relationship when he made out with Mary's ex-boyfriend. That incident occurred in Tupelo while they were on a hunt and according to Latika nearly got Mary killed.

Episodes

1.01 Pilot (The Winchesters)

When Mary Campbell and John Winchester travel to investigate Ada Monroe's disappearance, Mary discourages Latika from coming along and rejects the suggestion that they call Carlos for help. However Latika picks up Carlos and brings him along to Texas to help investigate. As they arrive a demon is attacking John and Mary, until Carlos hits it with his van. He then squirts the demon with holy water from a water pistol, puts a ring of salt around the demon, and gets John to read an exorcism. While looking through Ada's bookstore, Latika tells Carlos that Mary hasn't trusted him since he left her in the lurch during a hunt in Tupelo in order to make out with Mary's boyfriend. In New Orleans, the coordinates lead John and the gang to a crypt. While John and Mary head into the catacombs to retrieve the Monster Box, Carlos examines the warding on the crypt. Recognising that a loup-garou is present, he heads to his van to retrieve a silver blade. He returns to find it attacking Lata, and joins in the fight until he is knocked out. Mary returns with the monster box, and drops the silver blade down a hole to John who is fighting the loup-garou. Latika uses the sequence she has deducted from the schematic to open it, whereupon it sucks the demon inside.

Back in Lawrence, Ada relates that Samuel Campbell was a looking for a way to defeat a supernatural being called the Akrida, and that there may be information in Savannah. Mary heads to leave on her own, but John insists they go together as a team - Mary, John, Carlos and Latika.

1.02 Teach Your Children Well

Following Samuel's trail, Mary, John, Latika and Carlos find zombies guarding another Men of Letters site, where they find clues left by Samuel Campbell. As they investigate disappearances at a commune, Mary and Carlos clash as he confronts her about her autocratic leadership style. Ignoring advice from Latika puts John in danger from the monster they are hunting - La Tunda - although they eventually rescue him and kill the creature. Mary acknowledges she needs to change her ways and work as part of the team.

1.03 You're Lost Little Girl

Carlos and Ada track the demon accomplice of the demon that attacked her. Carlos gets bored on the stakeout but is impressed when Ada uses magic to trap the demon in her bonsai tree.

1.04 Masters of War

While investigating the death at a veterans hospital, Carlos and John go undercover in a therapy group, and Carlos finds talking about his experiences in Vietnam a positive experience. The god Mars Neto who is behind the deaths traps John and Carlos in an illusion. Carlos steps on a landmine, just like Murph did in Vietnam. Mars Neto appears and tells John he's been searching for a vet full of rage to help him in the fight against the Akrida. He sees that anger in John. John forces a deal - he'll help Mars if he frees Carlos. Mars counters - if John can draw first blood, then Carlos will be freed. After Millie is able to break the amphora that holds the god's immortality, John is able to stab the now mortal god. As he dies, Neto says John is just like him, and ready to fight the Akrida. The illusion, including the landmine Carlos was standing on, disappear. Then Doctor from the therapy group encourages Carlos to continue with therapy. However unsettled after the whole experience, Carlos tells Maggie he doesn't feel like sleeping in his van, so she lets him move into Maggie's room. Carlos also returns to the therapy group.
